We've been wrong all along, according to this "99.95 per cent of deaths last week were among the vaxxed".

So, uh, totally unrelated question... how exactly does this recall legislation work, anyway?

If anything, under Smith, either public school students will see less funding, or private school students will see more (unlikely)... At the end of the day, her plan for a voucher system means equal funding for all students... that doesn't seem fair.
Lol. I'm not exactly sure which side you're arguing here.

So if public school students see less funding, and those schools get worse. What happens? Do parents want to keep sending their kids to public schools? $$.

We're talking about a woman who apparently wanted to close up dozens of schools when she was on the Calgary school board.

Private schools shouldn't get more funding, they already get too much in Alberta. Alberta gives the most funding of any province to private schools.

As pointed out, that's not the biggest issue with the voucher system, there are several big issues. This system is designed to defund public schools, and allows for private operators to open up with fewer checks and balances.

As pointed out above :

Without digging in very deep it seems like the beauty of being an unelected, non-MLA Premier is that the recall legislation wouldn't apply to Smith.

So they receive about 70% too much?

Money that could go towards paying off debt or investing in education for people who can’t afford private school tuition.

Makes you wonder why all the “anti-socialists” who support people like Smith aren’t up in arms over this? Almost as if they don’t really care about or understand the things they claim to be outraged over, that or they’re just total hypocrites.

Heck we could probably get the “freedom” crowd on board with taking away money from private schools and putting it towards healthcare so that we give our system greater capacity which would reduce the need for future lockdowns. Quick everyone call your MLA we have a solution!

I think you & me and I have had this discussion on here recently and they are an advocate of fully funding private school students. I might have them mixed up with someone else.

Anyway, my position is that families who choose private school should bear the full financial burden of that choice, and zero public dollars should go to those schools. If that makes the schools extraordinarily expensive or not feasible to operate, good. The fewer families who choose private, the better the public system becomes.

And people, including a number of members of this forum, will still vote for her and her party. It doesn't matter what she says or what insane crap comes out about her, the Conservative vote is the only one they'll ever cast.

What if we just, like, buried her up to her waist in clay? Is that cool? I could probably find a way to contribute.

Come on, relax. Sure, she’s been the same person for years. I, as your average Conservative voter, believe we should give her a chance to see if she completely turns her back on the far right views and people that made her more popular than she’s ever been in her life and finds an inspiring level of intellect and intelligence she’s yet to even hint at over her entire career.

Of course, that’s just what I’m saying because I need to find some way to vote UCP again no matter what. But let’s ignore the obvious for a second.

I'm not arguing anything and I may have misinterpreted your post that I quoted, but you said: "I for one can't wait for Danielle Smith to try and pass a voucher system for schooling in Alberta".

My point was, if you're against private school funding, I don't think you'll like Danielle Smith's version of a voucher system... because she's calling for equal funding for all students, which either means an increase to private students, or a decrease to public students... Again, maybe I misinterpreted your OP.

We probably did. I do think that all students should receive the same funding and if the parents of some students decide to pay more for increased services / smaller classes, etc, that's a choice for the family to make.

I really don't expect anyone's position to change on this, so I'd rather not get into a public vs. private debate again. The only reason I posted was to point out that Danielle Smith's proposed voucher system will not have the effect I thought AFireInside was advocating for; "If people think the carbon tax is expensive, wait until they have to pay for private schooling".

I wouldn’t count on that. I’ve voted conservative for at least the last 25 years and won’t be voting for any party led by Danielle Smith.

While it’s refreshing to see so many people denounce her party, unfortunately in what is essentially a two party system people simply not voting for her isn’t likely to be enough to prevent a UCP win. But with that being said a lot of formerly conservative voters in this thread have also stated that they will vote NDP, we’ll see if enough people with that mindset follow through.

I think I actually ended up voting UCP in 2019 because Nick Milliken came to my doorstep and had a nice chat with me - he seemed genuine and Malkinson is a bit of a Milhouse.

Won't be making that mistake again! Milliken has been an awful MLA and the NDP has ditched Malkinson for Eremenko.

Did they not do this digging before the leadership race? Or did their journalistic integrity get in the way that they felt they would have had to do it for all 27 candidates or whatever?

Maybe no sane person would expect this nut job to have a sniff at a leadership role.
