Certainly has to be the most lobsided trade in Flames favor in franchise history
Yes - its one of those trades you sheepish throw out in a fantasy league expecting a straight rejection.

When the deal went down I obviously knew right away we were getting a stud in Huberdeau but didn’t know much about Weegar but quickly heard he could be our best Dman. Yesterday was the first time I really watched him closely and he was extremely impressive. Huge upgrade over Gudbransen and huge add for this team

The only downside in the trade potentially is the age difference in the key pieces over the terms of their contracts.

I think we should not boo Tkachuck when he comes back. He helped this franchise out by saying no to signing long term. Wouldn’t have Huberdeau and Weegar, plus Schwidnt and a first round if he wishy washied the franchise around compared to the other guy that left!

His pass to Ras was unreal. A lot more snarl to his game than I expected as well. Looks like a great piece!

He might be the best player in that trade.

I was surprised how physical he was.

I can’t believe we got as much as we did for Tkachuk? The Florida GM should be fired.

Sounds bad. But like you said the best thing he might have done for the Flames was help them pull off this trade.

It changed the maturity level of the group. It has a different feel now.

His intensity is high caliber. Can tell how much the guy cares right from O Canada. He had a great game and it was extremely fun to watch. It’s awesome that that was game one and we have 6 guaranteed seasons to look forward to.

He was a revelation. Had a similar impact to Brodie but with more aggression and physicality. From all accounts a great person as well. Really hard to believe we got him in that trade and at that contract. He's still growing as a player too. Nice to have such a solid defender locked down.

He's top 5 in the league by defensive metrics (stick checks, disruptions):

I also like that while Weegar has talent, he appears to have no sense of entitlement, and will keep working hard to be better.

That's what happens when you had to grind your way through the ECHL to get to the NHL. Weegar knows how hard it is to get to the show and will not stop working hard to stay. Love that type of grit!

Was Weegar the dman that pinched on the Mackinnon goal? I honestly don't remember but I thought I saw that.

He was. That wasn't a great decision but overall, he was the best player last night. But if the game wasn't 5 to 1 that pinch would be getting more press

I was 100% on a huberdeau blasty before last night, now I am a bit torn about getting a 52 in black instead...
