Aww that makes me sad. Obviously Conroy got politely excused by a fan who had to tell him it’s way passed little Jimmy’s bedtime and they had to go so he had to find someone to talk to.

My buddy at work, a huge West Ham fan, has taken to the Flames after years of watching me arrive at work, knackered, elated or pissed off, called to ask if I was excited for the opening night.
He was confused that I wasn’t because the Flames weren’t playing. His app said otherwise and I had it wrong. I put him straight when I told him the Flames never play on opening night.
I was wrong - GFG

The impact of Kadri / Huberdeau / Weegar is reminiscent of the impact of Toews / Kane / Keith during the Blackhawks' cup runs. Best roster construction the Flames have fielded since I have been a fan.

I know I’m late to the party but…..
When I was 8 I was an Oiler fan transitioning to a life long Flames fan (thanks Steve Smith)
I was 11 when they won their first cup and I was 26 when they won their last cup.

You are incorrect. Harbingers can be positive or negative, just a sign of things to come.

Reminiscing about the Flames last win in 09 has some fond memories for me but is beyond just game 1 of that season. I remember sitting in the press level for that game in 09 and we beat the hated Canucks. I then went with a buddy to Edmonton the following night to party with some other friends and then went to my first road BOA the next night which was a VERY memorable game for me. Flames scored super early, Conroy fought Ganger, and Moss got a late poke check goal past Khabibulin to win 4-3 late. Oh ya I was 26 at the time

Really impressive overall game from the team. Helps that the defending champs were tired and were missing Landeskog, but the Avs don't get done in like that often. Early going but the Flames' mentality looks like it's at a different level.
Loved Kadri, Weegar, and Dube that game. Kadri just makes it look simple out there, makes the right choice every time and makes it easy for his teammates. I think Weegar is going to be a force this season, as true a 2 way D as I've seen. Dube looks energetic and stronger.
Huberdeau showed a lot of good tools and made good passes on the PP, but he and his line struggled to make an impact at 5 on 5. Currently the 1st line has no one who can lug the puck up the ice, while the 2nd line has 3. Wonder if that's something that they'll change as they get more into the season.
4th line was pretty good but were definitely overmatched when Bednar started shortening the bench and got hemmed in quite a bit. I think Backlund and Coleman were let down by Lewis, who was fine but adds no on-puck value and killed possessions.
Hanifin-Andersson were solid overall but looked to get underwater against the MacKinnon line in the third as they started to push, and the 3rd pair were hemmed in often.
Great win to the get the season started! On to the Pretenders next.

I see what you did there. The real question is how old we were when the Flames took the cup in 6 games in 2004.

They looked like a team in midseason form on the opener which is something we haven't been able to say about many recent Flames teams in October. Feels like starting the season with two bonus points.
