Entertaining win to start the year — I remember last year’s games against the Avs were track meets, but I felt tonight the Flames were with them step for step (having them play last night probably helped).

As for the new guys, I was very impressed seeing them live. Kadri has a great motor and was very noticeable tonight — thought his line looked really good. Huberdeau has elite vision and is so poised with the puck, no panic at all. Also showed good acceleration to get after loose pucks (I don’t think he’s a burner but his quickness was evident). He and Lindholm seemed REALLY happy to connect on that PP goal — I think when Huberdeau says he wants Lindholm to score 50 this year he means it.

Weegar was solid and apparently his analytics were fantastic tonight. Thought he was fighting the puck a bit but it was nice seeing him able to kill plays with his speed and positioning — his rush helped to set up the Ritchie goal. Thought Rooney struggled, as did the Backlund line (no disrespect to Trevor Lewis because I thought he was okay but I’m not sure he’s suited for that role long term).

P.S. Colorado’s transition game in the neutral zone is insane, but that’s what happens when you have guys like Mackinnon (his goal tonight was filthy).

I just finished watching. Wow. This team looks fantastic.

> The fouth line was great
> Weegar was phenomenal
> Special teams were excellent
> That second line is an absolute terror.

Terrific win. Terrific game.

I don't care who you are. Any team that gets up 5-1 with a full period to play on the Cup Champs is going to get some pushback. The Aves made it closer in the end, but this game was really a blowout.

I didn't love the fourth line at all but I think that had more to do with deployment than anything. They were totally out of their depth against MacKinnon/Rantanen/Makar in the third.

The Kadri line was outstanding. Hoping to see more from Backlund and Coleman against Edmonton but I thought they were really dragged down by Lewis in transition. As it is, that line doesn't really have a natural distributor.

I still can't get over that pass Huberdeau made to set up Lindholm.

the incredible thing is backlunds line struggled and it was inconsequential to the result . because now there are two goods lines above his

Now about that ATL…

Harbingers are bad, so it can't be that.

You may be the end, and that’s cool for what it’s worth. And the game I watched was tense when there was a 2 goal margin, the Avs were pressing, and nearly cut the margin to 1

I’ll buy this game. Gotta spend money to make money

how incompetent NHL officials are.

This just show how stupid Oilers fans are. Their stupid team got away with a highstick penalty resulting a goal and I don't hear complain about the competency of the NHL refs.
