Are these companies not aware of the consumer dissatisfaction? It’s like they just don’t care, they’re being outdone by a streaming service and instead of trying to improve their own, they lobby instead to shutdown the streaming service.
And people are even wanting and willing to pay for it but it’s just that bad.

Blame the NHL and Rogers.
It's not a consumer protection issue - it's the NHL that decided to sell all national rights, including streaming rights to one provider.
Government can't, and really shouldn't be forcing that or getting into discussions about the quality of NHL streaming services.

They aren't gonna care if people keep paying for their services. They're making millions from subscriptions. If you're making millions and subscriptions keep coming in yearly, would you make any changes if things aren't broken? The only thing that I can see things go their way even more is to add more advertisement to bring in even more money. This is why it is so bad to have Rogers take over Shaw for cable and Internet. What these service providers do behind the scenes with CRTC is even more awful as they get their teams of lawyers to dictate Canadian laws on broadcasting services.

As long as they send me my $200 back they can be as angry as they want. Should take them to small claims on principle, the crooks.

It is a consumer protection issue because the NHL and Rogers are engaging in anti competitive behaviour. If there was competition and choice, the market could decide.
Are you a major Rogers share holder or something? Why would you encourage this kind of anti consumer behaviour?

I just don't think it's something the government needs to get involved with.
The way you voice your displeasure is by not paying for it.
Netflix, Amazon, Apple+, DAZN, Fubo, etc etc all have exclusive content, the NHL streaming rights being exclusive to Sportsnet Now / Rogers is no different.
I just don't really see what people want the government to do here.
Force Rogers/NHL to sell additional streaming rights to the NHL to other companies?
Don't allow streaming companies to have exclusive content?
It's no different than saying "I don't want to pay Crave/HBO to watch House of the Dragons, the CRTC should force them to sell that show to another provider". Not happening.

I'm not talking about those services. I'm talking about Canada and Rogers and the NHL.

The government should have a consumer protection agency or the CRTC step in and protect consumer rights. Like we have for other products. You tell Rogers to stop the digital advertising thru force of legislation or the power of the CRTC. Easy. No one is saying strip them of their broadcast rights.

They can’t let a good hockey game get in the way of the ads!

But a wooden leg, an eyepatch and a parrot is highly recommended.

I would say be careful what you wish for, if the way the soccer rights have been sold in the UK. Matches split into blocks, sold to different providers, meaning if you want to see all games you have to subscribe to different services. Is that better than one provider, in some cases yes, it provides competition and hopefully keeps the price down, but not if you don't want to pay for sports you have no intention of watching.

Maybe I'm nuts - but I didn't really notice the board ads except for the glitches they had.

That's they way it will go, because that's how you maximize your profit if you're the NHL.
NHL already does it with Regional and National rights being separate.
Next they will split out the national rights into different blocks. Wednesday night game, Saturday games, Sunday games etc.
NHL already kind of did it with TNT and ESPN in the US.
It's what the NBA/NFL have done for years with their TV rights.
Then to your point people will just be mad that they need multiple services / providers to get all the content. Their might be some NHL Center Ice type of solution still, but the national games being shown on the major provider will probably be blacked out in the future then.

One thing I'm looking forward to moving to the US is access to NHL Live again without paying $35/month to Sportsnet.

I am able to grasp the rationality of your perspective, however I think what really grinds folk's gears here is the fact that Rogers and other telco's keep gaining power and momentum. Not trying to go off in a tangent but Canadian's have been fed up with exorbitant prices for (seemingly) regular cable and phone packages. Now they are told to pay the same the businesses who provide those subpar phone/cable packages even more money for a streaming service that sucks really bad.
Canadian consumers are being triggered every time they open the SN Now app. Because it sucks and it is a waste of money and it could be 10X better but it isn't, and we can almost expect it to stay at a piss poor quality because Roger's certainly knows how to lay an egg in style.
Also for the record I haven't purchased SN Now premium (or plus or whatever their pay packages are called) this season for the reason that it provides a terrible user experience. I'm not giving the #######s at Rogers a damn penny until it gets better.

Too bad the NHL has 5.2 billion reasons why they literally don't care what we think.

I don't disagree but thinking somebody else is going to provide better service is also wishful thinking.
People were calling for DAZN's head when they first got the NFL rights for Sunday Ticket because the quality was so poor.
Same concerns are happening right now with Fubo.Tv getting the Premier League rights and having 720P streaming quality for the matches.
That's the issue with these streaming services in general. Outside of the big three (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+) the quality of the service just isn't that great, and Satelite/Cable is still going to be better quality.
I remember people complaining about the NHL Live app in the US as recently as a couple seasons ago as well but have heard that it's been greatly approved now.

I'll never pay this league another dime until they get rid of blackouts (and fix their terrible infrastructure). Buying the full Rogers Sportsnet package was literally the biggest waste of money in my life, didn't even stick with it for a full week

I can't ignore these f'ing digital abortions, the flashing diverts my attention. I hate it so much.
https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/nhl...153359581.html
This season, the NHL has debuted digitally enhanced dasherboards (DED), which “erase and replace” the advertising found on arena rink boards with virtual ads on broadcasts. The boards sometimes resemble the traditional ones fans are accustomed to, other times, one specific advertiser takes over the boards and the entire rink lights up with its ad.
During the broadcast of the Vancouver Canucks versus Oilers contest in Edmonton Wednesday night, fans expressed their frustration over the glitchy and distracting ads, some of which caused players on the ice to merge with advertisements on the boards.
