Speculating on JG’s and EG’s wives & children?
Wake up! Whoever is thinking about this is a ####ing lunatic. It’s none of you’re business. I’m pissed about the way JG handled things too, but it’s none of our business to speculate on his (or Gudbranson’s) marital life or family.
I mean, you could, but that’d speak volumes about your character and life experience.

This seems like one of the biggest overreaction posts I have read. People are not ripping on his family here. The talk on the Podcast was basically Johnny did not get the offers he was expecting. It was also reported that the Gaudreau camp reached out to Columbus first. If one of Meredith’s best friends husbands signed with a team in an eastern market that appealed to the Gaudreau’s. I thought Boomers story made quite a bit of sense.

CBJ made an offer but didn't expect to hear back - the story is that they were surprised when the phone did ring.

The behind the scenes clip of Nash walking into a board room and saying “his buddy is dying to come to Columbus” after speaking with Gudbransson, sort of indicates otherwise. Of course that’s just me reading into it.

That is not what I heard even before yesterday. I heard Gross had to reach out to the Jackets to gauge their interest and the Jackets went full court press once they realized they could get him

I think people are just getting sensitive to the forum constantly bringing up Johnny's wife/ family members. Yeah, this context definitely wasn't as bad, but c'mon. This is icky like a jilted incel levels of obsession. It happened, it's done, who cares why it happened anymore.

It's quite normal for spouses to be apart of the decision making process and I think everyone here gets that. For whatever reason she didn't like it here and the extra year and money wasn't about to persuade her/them.

It is not anywhere near jilted incel levels of obsession these comments are making it a bigger deal than it is. This thread is going to be around for a while as the Flames lost the face of their franchise for nothing when many signs pointed to him staying until the last minute.
Johnny said this was a family decision so it was clearly he, his wife, his parents/siblings/in-laws etc that went into the decision. I haven’t read the entire thread but have people been attacking Meredith and saying hurtful/evil things about her?
I see a lot of posters go full Will Smith and tell others to keep Johnny’s wife’s name out their effin mouths.
I agree with you everyone needs to move on as it is now in the past and everyone should have moved on. The new story from the Barnburner crew will spark some discussion.

I don't think I'd even jump to "she didn't like it here"
You can like the city, where you live, your friends, the commute to work, the restaurants, but have a wish to live closer to your family when you're having a baby.
But yeah any happily married person had better have their spouse involved in a decision as large as this.

Yeah, i was really confused when I read that. If anything, it sheds positive light on why Columbus. A lot of people have been putting the decision down saying that Gaudreau doesn't like pressure and that Columbus wasn't decided on for personal matters. The statement he made made just says that there were personal family reasons for why he went there.

I think had they married years ago maybe she would have been ok with staying even pregnant but I don't think she lived in Calgary long enough to fall in love with it and be willing to sacrifice being closer to family for the next 8 years.

What? No, she did like here, and Gaudreau would have signed here if it was 100% up to her.

No crap.
Yes, Gaudreau probably discussed the move to Columbus with his wife, and she had input into his decision.
Time to move along. The Flames are a better team now, and Gaudreau will probably have a lesser career in Columbus.

If people could stop talking about Gaudreau's family and focus on how invisible he was during games the thread would be a better place.

The situation is over and done with and I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle with both Gaudreau's camp and Columbus making overtures to each other and friends and family all making an impact on his decision along the way. Ultimately the choice came down to him and he was indecisive and waited past the 11th hour and it unfolded as such.
Right now I'm mostly interested in watching how he does with Laine and in yesterday's game against the Hurricanes he was a complete fizzle, doing his usual moves of hovering around his blue line anticipating for an offensive break-out play but leading to the Hurricanes spending way more time in the Columbus zone. I wonder if Darryl's defensive/checking coaching is going to go out the door and he's going to revert to his cherry picking habits instead of playing a 200 foot game.

I was going to suggest starting a new thread to discuss actual player performance this year, perhaps combining all of our former players (Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Monahan, Gudbranson, etc) rather than dragging along these bloated off-season threads.
Keep the Legend of Sam Bennett one though. That thread is... legendary.

Laine left the game with an injury too. Kind of sucks if it is something serious. They were showing a bit of chemistry in the pre-season. Gaudreau definitely sounded dejected in the post-game interview last night.
