Jarnkrok did 6 years at $2mil per with Nashville. Closest I can recall
You know...I know this is dumb, but if you signed a player at Max Term for League Minimum but the CBA gets negotiated and League Minimum goes up, what happens to the Contract?
I would assume that it would be adjusted accordingly as it would probably be designated as 'League Minimum' as a term rather than a concrete non-negotiable sum.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Waiver priority is not a thing though anymore, I thought.
How do you imagine the decision is made when there are competing waiver claims on the same player? Waiver priority is still determined by league standings, is it not?

It is, but the way you worded it you made it sound like the priority would be "lost" or "reset" after a claim; it does not. If you're in last place you continue to have priority over all other claimants, until you are no longer last place.

This is one situation where having the AHL affiliate in Calgary allowed this deal to happen. Maybe if the farm team is in Stockton and there's a reality that he might be there for a chunk of the season, away from his family, he doesn't sign or he signs later in the season like he did last year.

I wonder how much money he has lost by making cgy his priority. I’m sure he could start on other teams. I’m assuming for more money. Valimaki makes twice as much and I don’t think he’s as good as Stone.

At some point, family >>>>> money.
I don't have the patience or time to look through his accumulated career earnings, but I'm betting he's still in not too bad of a spot, likely having paid off all his debts, some decent retirement savings, and now just making extra cash playing a child's game.
that's at least how I would be handling it all if I was in a similar situation.

Capfriendly has his estimated gross to be $19.3M and counting.

I’ve wondered the same. Therefore it’s not dumb.
That said I dont think the contract actually says “league minimum”. It just has that number in the blank.
If league min today is 750k, and we sign stone to a contract at 3 x 750k, then league min changes to 900k in year 3, would we have to pay stone 900k?
I would expect so, and it is not like this is a new situation. Every time there has been a new CBA there have been plenty if players in the midst if their League minimum ELCs. I am sure the exact same thing that happens to their contracts would happen to Stone's.

The Ruzicka contract seems like an example of that. The leagues min this year is $750k which he is paid, the league min next year is $775k which he will be paid next year. This results in him getting paid league min both years, but this year he has a higher cap hit than the league min of $762.5k. At the same time next year he will have a slightly lower cap hit.
I don’t know if the CBA strictly forbids giving a multi year league min deal, but it can be looked at as cap circumvention, and in the long term it doesn’t “save” that much cap space anyways.

I doubt that Stone has left much money on the table. I suspect that this has really only been the first year in which he has had vuable, attractive options from around the Leaughe. Last year he was a late pickup, passed through waivers and played most of the season in thd AHL. I am very happy to have him in Calgary, but at the end of thd day he is still a bubble player.
