no they didn't - they are currently at 22 players, including Meloche, with Kylington in IR
I imagine the thinking was that it is easier to waive him now, than mid-season when Kylington comes back.

No because Kylington is an injury non roster. We have 22 contracts without Stone, can have up to 23... but the team wants to save some cap space for the deadline. Currently we can add a $5.175M player at the deadline.

I was under the impression that a player needs to go through waivers again after 30 days on the roster or 10 games played, whichever comes sooner. I guess that would work if Kylington comes back very soon.

The Flames are currently $1,175,000 under the cap.
Meloche is $950K, so if they send him down and sign Stone to the minimum $750k, they will be $1,375,000 under the cap.
Assuming that stayed the same until the trade deadline (it won't), they would have room at the deadline for a $6,175K salary

Exactly. Why would he be out in the dark like that? I get the Flames waiting until after the big flurry of moves across the league to hopefully sneak him through, but surely it would be communicated.
