Really any of Huberdeau, Kadri, or Weegar would be good choices.
Tanev would be my first choice, but I am not sure how long he will be in Calgary.
I have seen lots of rumours that it’s Backlund, and it’s tough to criticize that, because we aren’t in the room.

I think Backlund deserves it, but I could easily see it being Huberdeau, Tanev, Lindholm, or maybe even Kadri.
Regardless, I’m excited the team will have a captain again.

Sounds like it's going to be Huberdeau.

I want it to be Huberdeau or Lindholm.
Not a huge fan of Backlund and he has been part of a core that has been disappointing and won nothing.
A long shot (don't think it's the right move) but I wonder if they give it to Lucic for a year.

I'm going with Backlund as captain, Huberdeau and Tanev as assistants.

It will be Huberdeau or Kadri as the Captaincy was likely part of the negotiations with them coming here. And they’re both suited on their merits but I would think it’s going to be Jonathan Huberdeau.
If this is what the presser is about then the Flames are really getting things done. They must be really thinking this is the team they’re going to win it all with, exciting for sure.

My gut feeling is Huberdeau. The new face of the franchise.

Flames to name captain
It’s gonna be stone. They’ve been waiting to unveil his new contract, so they can surprise him with the captaincy.

My cousin saw Iginla this summer. Said the guy is still in great shape... we have a need for a scoring RW, and we're naming a captain..... hmmmm.

Last time they needed to name a captain I was adamant it should have been Glencross over Giordano, so I’m gonna sit this one out and let the people who know what they’re doing make the decisions.

I consider it embarrassing to the team and a slap in the face to the leadership group. Considering what happened with the two younger candidates (Tkachuck and Monahan) its for the best neither were appointed last year however I was calling for Backlund last year as well.
Backs is a lifer with the Flames, excellent in the community and is a lockerroom leader as proven by the fact he has worn an A for years. Shouldve been given to him after Gio left

I've said it before but I vote Lindholm, he plays the full length of the ice and appears to do all his talking through his play.
Never seems to take a short cut to avoid hard work.

I have thought Huberdeau since he signed the extension. As soon as the trade was made Huberdeau was sporting Flames gear everywhere. Guys like Lindholm have talked about his presence and leadership since he came. I am a fan of the star player being the captain and with Huby being locked up for 9 years it makes a lot of sense for it to be him
