I'm going to chime in on this because I hung out with Gala in Vancouver....this is easy for him to say because he is basically 'Bigfoot.' Nobody in their right mind is going to go messing with him.

Yeah. They do. They are going to wait for easier prey.
Trust me, when I was hanging out with him I was getting pretty hammered and nobody is worrying themselves about taking me on....unless he's got my back.
Gala could wander through the DTES camps like a Yeti in the wilderness, take some cash and meth and they'd thank him for the privilege and wish him well on his way.

For real? Have you walked around Granville, especially the side street alleys? I was waiting last week on my wife and parked in the alley and wow, some of the #### you see within 5-10 mins...
One can easily walk from one of the water front hotels to BC Place in 15 or 20 minutes and easily avoid any of the troubled areas especially the really bad parts. I am not saying you won't see some #### but the violence is almost non existent. Would I do it after 2am? Probably not. But after a show, assuming that is what the poster is heading into town for I don't think would be an issue.
This video is fantastic and does a great job explaining the issues properly and then providing the solution. Pretty straightforward and very informative, even though it’s long it’s well worth the watch to understand the problem.

And they want to make 'Personal Use Amounts' legal.

To me what is so god damn stupid is that Portugal has a model that works.
Just do that?
Also the video goes into great detail using a wide variety of stats and evidence that what Vancouver is doing is not working, is an unmitigated disaster, and is seeing skyrocketing problems across the board. Like, this #### needs urgent attention… it’s nuts.
Now here come all the very Canadian-Esque justifications and basically just excuses about how we can’t do the Portugal thing because of this that or the other thing.
But all it will be is just that- excuses. Use the model that works. Simple.
We have this annoying tendency to be geographically, economically and just generally exist in a place that is not Portugal.
"Legalize it ALL!!!!"
Yeah. This is working super well in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and on and on and on.
These bastions of unbridled Liberalism. Its going really well. Their tax rates are through the roof, their crime rates are...almost impressive. If someone did a 'Value for Money' analysis the residents probably wouldnt be all that happy with the answer.
Unless you are a shareholder of 'Camper's Village' and make money selling tents.
Or drugs. If your last name is Sackler then legalize it all! Nothing bad could possibly happen!!! Again....
You should watch the video. It explains well how the Portugal model works and how why what we are doing is not the Portugal model. Also, Canada is like Portugal in that humans live in Canada, and we have a massive drug addiction problem leading to all the problems cited in the video. Because we have humans addicted to drugs, as the video explains well, the Portugal model works well to solve the problems of humans addicted to drugs.
You see, it’s quite straightforward in fact.
People use drugs.
People get addicted to drugs.
People need state sponsored and enforced programs to rehab from drug addictions.
The Portugal model, again as the video explains, is not just some idiotic free for all like Vancouver is. You should take the hour to watch the video.
Sounds to me like the main culprit of why Canada isn’t doing the Portugal model pretty much can be summed up, once again like all other issues plaguing our country, as ####ty leadership, insanely overblown and unwarranted political ego and refusing to admit when we make wrong decisions, ####ty politics / policy, non-science based, not-fact based reasoning for policy enactment, pretending to look like you’re doing something when you’re not, you know- all the classic behaviour and policy of our current ruling classes across the board.

Damn, I didnt feel like getting dragged into it, hence the deletion. I'll deal with this post later.

Sounds good. To me, boggles the mind that people would look at what is one of the only successful drug addiction/ homeless reduction campaigns on earth and then do whatever we can to make up reasons why we can’t just do that model. Because they’re different and stuff. Or something.
Meanwhile, the current view in Vancouver is…… apparently killing 6 people a day. But damn, let’s not try anything different.

It boggles my mind how many people assume that everyone is just waiting for easy access in order to be a drug addict. It’s not a life goal, it isn’t something you should feel any jealousy or whatever towards. That’s the feeling I get, “these people just sit around and do drugs… having fun… while I work!” It’s painfully moronic.
