Would love to bring in Simmonds in a bottom 6 role. Might fit in well with Backlund and Coleman to start the season.

The name is a player that would fit well on our bottom 6 for sure. But I haven't seen much of him at all in the past 5 years. No idea if he's even remotely effective anymore.
Could basically be another Lucic. Slow and a shadow of his former self, but tough and leadership qualities.

At 34 and some so-so numbers in a bottom 6 role that’d be a pass for me and I’ve always liked Wayne but I think Father Time has caught up to him.

Couple names to watch for potential waivers:
Gabe Vilardi (though seems to have played his way on to the team to start)
Vitali Kravtsov (hasn't played well, outplayed by Kakko, but could be hung onto as the 13th forward)
Fabian Zetterlund (probably makes NJ to start the year, but they seem stacked up front, and if they want to give a guy like Holtz a chance, eventually a decision has to be made)

Kravtsov or Zetturlund would both be intriguing options if they do hit the waiver wire, especially Kravtsov.

I don't think it will happen immediately. I think they will hang on to him. But at some point he will push for ice time or push for a change.
And he simply hasn't been good enough to win a spot on the opening night line up while Kakko has. If Kakko falters he gets a chance probably. But if Kakko grabs the spot it might be tough.

I think Kakko and one of NYR’s 1sts will go towards Patrick Kane eventually.

Yea the Panarin/Kane reunion almost seems inevitable. Don’t tell edm fans that though, they’re banking on Pool Party, Broberg and a 5th landing P.Kane hahahahaha.

Agreed, Flames require a right winger who can play the 2nd line
Simmonds does not fit a need on this team

Specifically with speed. We can’t add more medium speed muscle.

I think Simmonds was a poor skater in his prime, nevermind now at his age. He’s still tough as hell though.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Simmonds is absolutely a Sutter type player, just not what the team needs unfortunately.

With Valimaki being claimed, and Kylington likely to go on LTIR, any chance Tre goes fishing for a top 6 winger

Guess it depends on if they expect Kylington back this season.
LTIR can only help so much until the player returns, at which point they need to free up space to reactivate the player.

If Washington ends up failing, I would want to pay the expensive price tag needed to acquire Tom Wilson. Can’t see Sutter disliking a player like that.
