The greatest crime of the Uncharted movie is that they didn't just make that Nathan Fillion fan movie. That 14 minutes on youtube was much better than the actual full length movie.
As for a feature worth watching, I just rewatched an old favourite, Zulu. If you haven't seen it, watch it
The movie had a $120 million budget and Holland & Wahlberg brings in viewers that may not have heard or played the game. I don't think they would have secured anywhere near that budget with Nathan Fillion playing the leading role. They probably would have been better off going with Fillion, a lower budget, and doing it in a jungle setting like the first game without need for major special effects of the latter games. Personally I thought it was just okay but my 14 year old liked it.

I love that fan movie but Fillion is like 50 years old. They needed to cast someone fresh. I didn't hate the Holland casting, and understand how the name recognition and release in the wake of No Way Home made this profitable, but didn't like where they went with the character both on performance and writing.
I have seen Zulu, it's great! A prime example of the benefits of shooting on location.

Near Dark just got added to Criterion Channel and I had forgotten how entertaining it is. Might be Bill Paxton at his best, the barroom scene may be my favourite in any vampire movie.

I didn't really think anything of Nacho Libre when I watched it on release. Watched it again with my kid and think the movie deserves a second look. It looks like it got roasted a bit critically back then.
It's hilarious, Jack Black is great in it, has some pretty heavy religious overtones but overall told a universally-understood optimistic story. Nice change of pace in an ocean of anti-hero stories.

How did they not cast Detective Crashmore from I Think You Should Leave.
My only gripe here is that the trailer basically gives away the entire movie. Kind of bummed I watched it because I think it has potential to be really good based on seeing pretty well the entire storyline in the trailer. I would advise anyone curious to not watch the trailer and just watch the movie.

Watched Amsterdam last night, the new David O. Russell film with Christian Bale, John David Washington, and Margot Robbie.
It had such potential...but it didn't know what kind of film it wanted to be. It felt like two films with different styles and pacing smashed together. Wildly inconsistent from scene to scene, and the acting was even noticeably inconsistent, even with very good actors. At times it seemed like they were just including famous actors just to say "hey, check out this scene with this famous person!". Felt a bit too much like a stage play at times. It struggled to create flow and there were scenes and plot lines that didn't seem to add much to the overall enjoyment of the film.
That being said, there are some very good things in this film too. Bale is pretty good playing a very unique character. Robbie is intriguing on screen as is Washington, but not incredible. The set design, costumes, and overall aesthetic was pretty good. My favorite contribution came from Mike Myers playing a British intelligence agent. Really seemed to nail the role but also add a small bit of levity. He's become quite a good supporting actor given a small enough role. Michael Shannon also provides some good scenes as his partner.
I wanted to like it, but it was just so disjointed and uneven. I really had trouble with some of the acting. I also had a big issue with the sound as there was almost nothing in terms of ambient noise or music in the vast majority of scenes, and the dialogue was so quiet at times that it was hard to hear everything. It needed a good editor and a better script.
I'm giving it a 5/10 just because it was a really ambitious film, but it just falls flat. It hurts me to say it because Russell is one of my favorite directors, but he missed the mark this time.

Nacho Libre is a classic. Jack Black’s best.
