That is an amazing cap hit for a defencemen of this quality...Leaves the Flames in a position to make a UFA splash next summer too.

That would be a good deal and contract especially with the salary cap potentially increasing. Maybe a trade for a winger coming then too now.
Good work by Brad Treliving here.

Bold prediction; This won't be officially announced until 9pm tonight, because Tre has announced many of this off-season's deals in the evenings.

On this signing, I'm very comfortable with it. Defenceman like him can maintain a longer career. Maybe the last year or two won't be fun, but I think the first 6 should be just fine at that price.
I'm more concerned about Huberdeau and Kadri's lengthy deals as the 2027+ seasons will likely be the dark ages again, but for now I'll shut up.

Yup. The Tkachuk trade is the trade of the decade.
I can't think of any others that even come close. Maybe Larson-Hall...
and yes it still feels like a dream.

The Nurse / Weegar comparison is even funnier when you take into account that Weegar is only a year older than Nurse.

I'd say it was a very good trade for the near term. What's somewhat lost in all this is what this does for the team long term when Kadri and Huberdeau at 35+. Those contracts are going to be slightly better than today's Lucic's, and it's going to be some tough years. It will be a fun next 1-3 years, no doubt. But it was a win now, expense the future type of deal needing to sign vets to lengthy deals.
