I was in poli sci classes with Smith when she was president of I think it was the young conservatives organization. The name of people who were in the faculty taking classes at the time is interesting. Smith, Rob Anders (what an ass), Nenshi, Pat Kelly (current MP), Ezra Levant, several others who went on to become politicians.

They were all loudmouths (excepting Pat Kelly, he's decent).

If Smith wins tonight I'll be very disappointed.

If we had more cooperation and coalitions we could see something like the PPC on the far right, a PC on the center right, an LP on the center left, an NDP-Socialist on the far left and a couple other parties that pull bits and pieces from the spectrum. But instead we get big tents that try to win majorities but have to appease a much too broad range of voters.

She's going to fracture the party even more if she doesn't allow party members to have a different view. There won't be a party left it she starts kicking out members of her own party.

Don Braid @DonBraid

This UCP leadership show is now set to start at 7:30, not 5:30. They're short of volunteers in the count room. It always seemed odd they expected to enter 80,00+ ballot details over eight hours. #yyc #ableg #abpoli #yyccc #ucpldr

She's already threatened to purge the Alberta government ranks of 'socialists'. It would stand to reason she's might boot the dissenting MLAs out of her own party as well.

She still won’t have a seat in the legislature, I imagine it’d be hard to bring forward bills when you have no power to do so.

After the next election, if she wins, the UCP are most likely losing their urban MP's. So the party will be made of of MP's mostly from rural areas, who generally support her poorly thought out insanity. The problem with Alberta Conservatives and party unity has always been the crazies have felt they are on the outs. Now they are the party. Unity will not be an issue going forward.

I went digging into some of Smith's news letters I subscribed to. I think you'll find the bolded part quite interesting.

Every leader has a fatal flaw. My fatal flaw is my inability to understand the emotion that drives some issues. I compensate for it by being willing to talk to all sides of all issues so I can understand why I see the world so differently from others at times.

Premier Kenney’s fatal flaw is his tendency to dig in on an issue once his mind is made up. I see no evidence after his 180 degree turn in favour of COVID lockdowns that he has done anything other than listen to people who agree with him. In fact, if the stories from caucus are true, he’s actively clamping down on dissent.

Her fatal flaw is that she isn't nearly as smart as she thinks she is.

She can't read people/voters and that will be her downfall.

She quit her radio show because she couldn't see that listeners were not happy with some of the views she presented, especially when it came to Covid. It's always someone else's fault.

I wonder if any of them hooked up with each other.

Levant and Nenshi would make a lovely couple!

Make no mistake; while I think Smith winning tonight is interesting in terms of the politics, there’s zero percent chance I’d ever vote for her.

Yeah, we have to remember that if Smith wins she will be Premiere for ~7 months before we get an election. If she calls a by-election right away she'll be in the House mid-November and still have 5.5 months to pass bad legislation.
