Always smug.
Which is remarkable given how no good they are.

The real wtf part is that scraping past LA then Calgary with a shooter tutor in net is what has convinced them beyond a shadow of doubt that they have "made it".. considering the 0 wins versus col, no disrespect to us but they have proven nothing about having ability to contend.

Talking to him before his criminal rape case was settled, BEFORE. Wow just wow.
Its people like Ken Holland and his staffers who perpetuate the vile hockey culture.
The desperation is nothing like I've ever seen before.

Disagree. They signed him in the first place, sanity lost a long time ago.

They could have released him because they don't have the cap space to sign him. He might still show up there if they unload PullyourRV

It's hard to overstate how bad their cap situation is. They have 21 players and even with the LTIR removed and Koekkoek not counting while he is off they are not cap compliant. Which means they have to send down another player and run with 20 or make a trade. And at the same time on HF they talk about how he belongs on their 4th line because he hasn't been good enough, they are thinking Dallas would send Faksa & Kiveranta plus possibly a late round pick to get RV from Edmonton. I highly doubt there was no attempt by Holland to trade any of the contracts away, so I don't know why they think it will be some big lopsided slam-dunk trade that pushes the oilers over the top.

This is all after paying to move Kassian, giving Keith a fake job so he retires, and abusing LTIR with Smith

It's crazy. I don't spend a lot of time (zero actually) listening to Edmonton media, but if this isn't a huge deal up there, they are not paying attention or are intentionally ignoring this. With Koekoek gone, they are still ~227k above the cap with 12 forwards and 7 d-men. If the season started tomorrow as far as I can tell, they'd have to send down Broberg as he's the only guy left who wouldn't have to go through waivers. They would be compliant but have zero players in the stands. Oh, and Holloway is forced to play in the minors as well. Unless they have someone else who can go on LTIR? Either way, it's beautiful.

More that they just don't have the capacity to understand it, I suspect.
People with the math skills to run cap calculations don't tend to get low-paying jobs in local media.
People with the general intelligence to understand the results of those calculations don't tend to stay in Edmonton.
I mean, E=NG isn't exactly an advanced equation, but some people still don't get it. And you want them to understand capology?

I think they wanted him, but realized their Participants Legacy Trust Fund was already overdrawn.

From what the Local Media has reported, he wasn't very good. Showed up like a vet with a contract who thought he just needed to get thru camp.

Plus, from what I can tell, the oilers have to have Broberg and Holloway on the opening day roster in order to not need cap room for their performance bonuses. Seems like if they call them up if they were not on the opening day roster they would have to have the room for their bonuses (800+k for Broberg, 500k for Holloway), which could mean losing the ability to call them up through the season. They also don't seem to understand the LTIR up there, as some fans are talking about just putting guys on there for a game or two, while ignoring its a 10 game/24 day minimum the players must miss.

Well, that's weird. Isn't this the "Oilers way"? How on earth did he not get a contract with that level of entitlement?

They are expected to put Benson on LTIR for some sort of lower body injury that just came up.

I imagine the Oilers have a designated door for the 3rd and 4th line guys that has the Mexican customs button they have to press to get through. Except it's either green or LTIR.
