Time to get down to business. Get systems in place and get some practice time in so that they're ready for game 1. I do not want to see them lose another season opener.

Isn't the season opener against the Avs? I'm expecting very much to lose that game lol

Milano really needed to show that he could individually produce some offense or at least some pressure in the offensive zone. I have no doubt that he can pot a few if he plays with top line talent, but that wasn't going to happen here.
Glad they at least gave it a shot though and I wish him the best. I imagine he is bound for somewhere like Switzerland. I'd entertain giving him a two-way contract and keeping him in the AHL for depth in the event of injuries.

Plus the Avalanche will have already played a game to shake the rust off.

No surprise on Milano at all. I was hopeful when he signed the PTO that there was something there but he had multiple opportunities and just... meh. Whole lotta nothing. Very disappointed that he wasn't the answer on the 2nd line, but he wasn't even remotely close and he would be completely useless on the 3rd or 4th line.
Eakin was fine, but as others have said, he's just more of the same on the bottom line and we already have a plethora of 4th line guys, and picking up Zohorna probably cemented his fate.
Wolf was good and had a good camp overall, but he isn't taking one of the goalie spots so might as well send him down now.

Milano is a weird one. I could see him being a good fit in a low-pressure situation like Arizona (or Anaheim)

Was hoping that Milano would have a good training camp and find his way onto our middle six, but he just didn’t do anything.
Eakin would have just been another depth/4th line forward. We have enough players who can fill that role for now.

Very interesting to see what happens with the extra 2 d men. I would think for now they will likely want to go with 14 forwards and 7 D. Don't want to lose Ruzicka to waivers or Zohorna and darryl loves Lewis and Ritchie. You could put Ritchie on waivers but I don't think they will. Its down to a battle between,Meloche,Mackey,Valimaki and Stone. I think it is more of a battle between 3 guys as Stone will likely be at least the number 7 D. He could even start the year on the 3rd pair. It will be interesting to see how the pairings look opening night.

I think Stone should be next to go. He has been fine in the O-zone and PP but not sure he is an significant enough upgrade on Mackey or Meloche 5 on 5 to warrant a contract. Unlikely he would get much PP time outside of pre-season.

Disappointing. Eakins look made him a good match. Too bad his play didn't cement his spot. Glad this team doesn't choose players based on how they look in a the Flames uniform.
Also Milano was very disappointing. Should have been a good 2nd or 3rd line RW but he just didn't show up ready to earn a job.

I think Stone has some sort of a gentleman's agreement with Treliving that he will always be ready to sign and suit up if we need the depth and we'll make it up to him somehow. I hear they are personally close.

Does it really matter who they play on opening night? They lose every time.

sign Stone and send him to the Wranglers. Make NHL (minimum) money, stay in Calgary, road trips to California. Win, win, win for him
Depth call up if needed. Win for the Flames as well

Taking a while to get to 5000

Might be different this year. The Avs open at home the night before and have the banner raising ceremony. Then on a plane tp Calgary. The Flames need to capitalize on that.
As for the PTOs, Milano acted like the spot was his, not just available. Eakin was pointless from the moment he was signed. I assume his purpose was to push the kids like Ruzicka but I'm not sure that happened.

I didn't watch the game from beginning to end. I noticed him a few times because of his size but otherwise I agree although sometimes not being noticeable is not a bad thing with depth players. He's not been here long though and it may take some time.

I have a feeling Valimaki is next to go. He might clear with his salary though and if he gets sent down the cap space might be more valuable than he is

Stone the last couple of games has not been very good in his own end of the rink.

I still hope they sign Stone for the same role as last season. He's a good 7th defenseman with a good shot. With Kylington's status in limbo at the moment, Stone could prove valuable against teams where we need a little more offense from the blue line. Mackey, Valimaki, and Meloche all seem a little redundant in their skill set to me. Stone adds something a little different.
