Hard disagree.
This is an insanely good deal for the Stars.

Hard to call it "insanely" good when they've handed Robertson all the leverage to his UFA years. Plus already paying him close to $8M per season for his pre-UFA years.
Much like Tkachuk, the team could not afford the AAV of going 8 years and covering a number of UFA years and locking him up for his prime years.

Definitely Tkachuk-esque, but it's a 4 year deal. So obviously it depends how the 4 years go. If he continues to be an elite forward and the team isn't good it might end the same way, but he's American so it's not like he has a particular reason to want to leave.

Dangerous contract for them. I suppose they figure in 4 years Benn and Sutter will be off the books, but they will still have a couple years of Seguin at $9.85. Plus Marchment, Lindell and Oettinger all come up at roughly the same time.

Good deal for Robertson.
He should outperform that contract.
Dallas doesn't have any issues with retaining players so the length shouldn't be a big concern either.

Good AAV for the Stars given what he brings. It does walk him to free agency which is a risk, but they have kicked the can down the road, to deal with it in 4 years.

A team should have offered a 5 x $8.4M offer sheet though. Walks him right to UFA, only a 1st, 2nd, 3rd for compensation, and puts the Stars in tough situation cap wise as I'm not sure they could actually fit that in.

They would have matched and figured it out later.
It's only $0.65M more than he got. They were losing him for that.

I like Robertson, but he sure disappeared against Calgary in the POs. 1 goal and 4 points but he sure wasn't noticeable.

Didn’t realize he would still be an RFA. Great deal by the Stars, then

That is where Treliving messed up. The Tkachuk deal had to be qualified at 9mil at the end of it instead of having it be a 7 mil QO. Good cap hit but a high QO offer at the end of it.

well, in the end the amount of the QO didn't matter. Tkachuk is at least a $9 million player.

If you are paying guys 9 or 9 plus to be your core they better show up and produce in the playoffs.

And RFA, but in the same position as Tkachuk - huge QO and basically calling his shot for the remaining year.

The checking and goaltending in that series was…pretty good.

I think this is very much like the Tkachuk negotiation. People were screaming for Tre's head, but in the end it was a deal that the Flames could fit under the cap, and Tkachuk was full value for the contract and the QO. I could see Robertson having the same impact, but with a smaller chance of bouncing (although that chance still remains).

Yeah he was playoffs Tkachuk-like quiet in the first round series vs the Flames.
