That's some damn fine GMing. Gets him to his last year of RFA.

That benefits the player as much as anyone...he gets over 9M guaranteed and can still hold the team hostage

I think this is a great deal for the player and a decent deal for the Stars.

Already a good deal, instead of just hoping he gets better like a few signings lately. Boring name for a star though.

If Brad signs this deal he gets crapped on.
Lindholm is going to be 9 plus at this rate.

Probably by some but its really hard to compare
zero UFA years vs. all UFA years

Yeah this is the similar as the Tkachuk contract and drama here around him. He doesn't play that last season as a Star if he's still at his current progression...if he tanks in the years ahead and isn't worth his $9.3 in year 4, he plays it out and Stars trade him and probably retain.

Shades of the Tkachuk bridge. Really fantastic player, don't think Robertson gets nearly enough credit as one of the premier young stars in this league.

Probably because he isn't a premier young star. 1 good year and 1 ok covid season.

I would say more like two fantastic seasons. 124 points in 125 games including 41 goals last year while dominating at both ends of the ice ... this is a pretty incredible contract for the Stars, especially because he'll still be an RFA at the end

So along the lines of what Tkachuk did before he signed his “bridge” contract as well.

I bet the Stars wanted to go longer but didn’t have the cap space for what that would have taken
Lots of parallels with what happened with Tkachuk

Isn't it straight to UFA?
Or did he have to play more then 9 games in year one?

Yeah the first partial season doesn't count. And he'll only turn 27 three weeks after his contract expires. Just *barely* will remain an RFA

Really I dunno he seems pretty hyped up to me. Glad this is wrapped so we can stop hearing about it

If he continues to progress they will wish they went longer...if he doesn't they will regret that RFA year. Good chance they get a couple "bargain" years in there though.
Every signing we assume the player will just keep getting better, some guys peak early though.
Will be interesting to see how his season goes without a camp

There’s an argument they could have gone shorter with him and then sign him to a bigger deal once the cap opens up. As Jiri said they probably didn’t have the cap space to go higher right now.
