At the very start of the Spittin Chicklets broadcast that Tre was just on, Bissonette said to book a Flames/Leafs SC final this year!

Eakin's number is so bad that that little swap made the 3rd line worse and tanked our 4th line and C rankings

I like those charts, but given that GSVA is ~75% driven by points, I'd guess that our RWs out preform these numbers, and our 3rd line under preforms. Just based on TOI, Line mates and special teams play. Pre-season analysis probably means a lot less than a mid-season analysis, especially in the case of a team like the Flames where really Mangipane, Lindholm and the 4th lines are the only forwards who wont be occupying a new spot in the lineup.

Well, Backlund, Coleman and Dube's roles aren't really changing either

Reading the Florida panthers preview I get the impression Tkachuk is becoming highly overrated. They copy Zito's quote about him verbatim calling him a special unicorn.

Their model actually gives him 0.1 more points than Mackinnon which is absurd. 4.5 wins to 4.4 for Mackinnon. No one honestly thinks that - and they admit their model overvalues his score

Yeah in the article. Eakin is rated -0.8 wins

He's not even signed though and I don't think he will be, which I think is why they have picked up Zohorna.

It's silly to have a team with "D+" ranked goaltending in first place.

How does Markstrom drop from 3.2 to 2.8 between the two rankings?

its hard to know whether its a sad comment on the player, the rankings, or both that a single swap of Cody Eakin for a guy who has never played in the NHL drops the team for 2nd to 4th (ok realizing all these teams are closing bundled)

Just guessing but I assume because if the players in front of him change, his expected results would change too. This would apply to everyone in reality but probably has the largest impact on goaltending.

Well with Cody Eakin in, in addition to wrecking Markstrom, we apparently go up from 107 pts to 107.1 pts, and our chance to make the playoffs also goes up from 96% to 97%…. but our chance to win the division drops down from 62% to 60%.

So Eakin tanks our goaltending and costs us points against the Oilers, but gets us 0.1 more pts and increases our chance to make the playoffs by 1%. I think I’d rather replace him.

Edit: Oh, and somehow the only defenceman Eakin impacts is Kylington, actually making him better by 0.1… while making Markstrom worse by 0.4. All other D stay the same.

Right, this is where the projections get a little silly. Pelletier was not great in camp, and clearly not as good as Eakin, who I thought performed okay. But moreover, I think there is a realistic possibility that Pelletier works his way into the lineup this year, and holds on.

Also, it is becoming very likely that Eakin isn't in the lineup. The more pertinent question is: what is Zohorna's number, and how does that impact Markstrom?

And what about the other teams? Surely the Flames ate not the only ones who are juggling lines in the last week of training camp to get down to the opening night roster.
