On the contrary: many "all-season" tires are M+S rated.

I don't recall ever owning a set of all seasons that were not M+S.

I don't think the bolded is true...pretty sure most all seasons have M+S - it's often marked pretty small though.

Right, so the point is, most people's "summer" tires actually qualify as winter use tires in BC for that purpose. I wouldn't consider that wise, but that's the system.

Yeah it's always been a really half-hearted rule imo, the amount of people that actually run summer only tires in Canada has got to be less than 5%. Probably even less than that

Any all season anyone buys, or any vehicle sold new in Canada, is guaranteed to have M+S designation. It’s not a performance spec, just a design on the depth and frequency of tread.
The only people who have dedicated summer tires know it. And they’re probably not the ones likely to take their Audis and Porches on track day tires through the mountains.
Overall though, Tire condition should be a cause of pulling way more vehicles off the road than it is. It’s crazyyyy what some people will drive with.

Yup. Quebec requires actual winter tires (mountain/snowflake logo) from Dec 1- Mar 15.
Not sure if any other provinces mandate anything?

In parts of BC winter tires are mandated. October to April.

Swapped out the tires on my car and my daughter's on Monday. Did my wife's today. We're ready to rock. Earlier than I normally would have with the current forecast, but I've got a busy month coming up so I wanted this out of the way.
What a fataing PITA, though. I'm totally tired of doing this. So glad I went to all weathers on my work truck as it's nice not having to do that anymore on top of the others.

Take's 30 minutes to do my wife's car, I'll wait until snow is imminent. My truck can happen whenever.

I always think it will take 30 minutes, but I seem awesome at stretching it out to an hour.

The past few times I've totally nailed under an hour for both. It's glorious not having to haul tires from the shed, and carry a jack up from the basement. This garage thing is really working out!

I've changing tires for 30+ years, never had any issues until last year. My kids car is a 2003 Nissan and the past couple of swaps a lug nut has seized and I end up snapping the stud. I've never had that happen before and I'm obviously frustrated and mystified. I suppose it could be any number of reasons but any thoughts on why its happening? Old studs? Over or under torqueing?

Over torquing most likely. However a slight chance that it was under torqued and bent from movement.
Still going with over torqued. Seems to be extremely common with home change overs as many people don't actually use a torque wrench and when they do they don't adjust it properly/ don't get those clicks mean something lol.

I wish I had a 2nd set of rims for our cars
I guess I could get some for my wife's Civic, but I don't want to do mine because I want to get some larger rims and use my current ones for my winters but don't think I could get an approval on that yet.

That's my thought too. I use a torque wrench but the vehicle was 15+ years old when we got it so who knows the history. Of course it's possible I'm one of those idiots you describe who don't use a torque wrench properly but I'm pretty sure I do, and it's only happening on one vehicle.

Could just be dirt or debris in the threads that hardens. I know once I over torqued my lugs on my truck back when I had it and managed to seize 3 bolts total that required a blow torch to make things happen. My recent vehicles have all been lug bolts so I haven't seen issues other then the fun times of lining the wheel up when I can't find the wheel hanger.
