Back in the day my younger brother and his room-mate did something similar on the balcony of their apartment. The police came and (nicely) asked them to take it down as they kept getting calls from people who thought it might be real.

On the topic of neighbours... sometimes you just gotta put up with neighbour's blaring things loudly. Sometimes it's half decent music, so it's fine. But the one MAGA hat wearing trumper in my neighbourhood who blares Donald Trump speeches so we can all hear them can go to hell. Currently listening to some Michigan governor rally and I can hear it word for word. Ugh. I'm working (so can't put on my own sounds) and it's too nice to close the window.

MAGA-hat-wearing Trumpers tend to be old fogeys; perhaps they're just hard of hearing.

A couple of years older and you could talk this out with your child. Maybe you can depending on you 4yr old.

If you can’t do that with your 4 yr old, it might be worth talking to the neighbor, unless he blares Trump speeches.

Tuff one

Is a decapitated head a bit TOO much for Halloween decor? Worth saying anything? I don't want to be a fuddy duddy but I feel like that may have overstepped the boundary of good taste for seasonal decorations on your front yard.
Talk to the guy, maybe he would take it down until the week before halloween for you. You could even lead off with that you might be being a fun sponge but …. I think it’s worth taking to him. They might not care and you shouldn’t be mad if they don’t care but they might be very compromising.

Let the decapitated head be and tell your daughter it’s not real.

Yes. Best to just desensitize ourselves to graphic violence at an early an age as possible. Those anti-abortion trucks and pamphlets will all be for naught.

Ya come on she’s already 4. If you can’t just explain to her why she shouldn’t be afraid of something, then that’s on you. Because we all know all 4 year olds always listen to reason 100% of the time. It’s one of the laws of the universe.

It can be both things at once.

Your neighbor IS crossing the line with a realistic graphic head like that with little kids around the place.

But you would be a fuddy duddy if you said anything to him.

This is just one of those tough ones you'll have to deal with on your own.

Yeah I disagree.

It is possible the neighbour doesn't totally get that it might scare kids that are the same age a TFA's kid.

Having an honest/non-judgmental conversation might go a long way.

Hell even saying to buddy "wow that's a crazy realistic head! My kid is terrified of it and scared ####less." If he isn't a total D-bag he might put it together.

This isn't about him being a fuddy duddy, this is about how he approaches it.

If it’s realistic enough to be noteworthy, I think it’s an inappropriate display. There’s the horror and gore of Halloween then there’s just poor taste. Children walking to school shouldn’t be seeing decapitated heads.

Save that #### for actual Halloween. It’s a day of fright, not carte blanche to be morbid for a month.

That's a good point and another Gear Grinder.

When did Halloween become a ####ing month long event?

Why are houses even putting up displays beginning for October?

If Halloween doesn’t take late September and early October, Christmas will.

If it really bothers you, maybe have a friendly chat with your neighbour about it. I wouldn't lose my head over it though.

It's really grinding my gears how busy the roads have been since September. I know tons of people are back in school and people are back at work, but I can't believe that it takes me 2-3 times longer to get to work now. First world problem, but dang, it's annoying.

I’ll never understand Halloween nerds. They rank around the same as Disney adults to me. Just some lock never got unlocked in childhood and they’re perpetually stuck obsessing about something most people can just casually enjoy.
