Very little of our ancillary roster actually fits together. We're still jamming Toffoli next to Huberdeau and Lindholm, no one really looks like they fit next to Kadri and Mangiapane, and I'm not sure who fits with Backlund and Coleman.

They're probably gonna throw as many 6'4"+ darts at the wall as they can all year until they need to mortgage more futures for another deadline acquisition

With Sutter at the helm, the Flames need as much skilled size as they can get. Zohorna fits the bill.

I'm down with this. Much better bet than Eakin.

There is a quote in that article where Mike Sullivan calls him "Big Z".

For some reason I don't think they will call him that here in Calgary.

Uh oh. There's a new and bigger Big Z in town... Oh wait, Zahorna is 6-6, 220 while the OG Big Z is 6-6, 235... Carry on...

I agree with this. I get the team got pushed into a corner by Gaudreau and Tkachuk, but this team really is poorly constructed IMO. I just don't see where players fit, and we keep adding from the bottom up rather than trying to move a player in with some skill and push players top down. I see the pair thing sort of working, but the third player on each of the lines is so uncomplimentary I don't see how they're going to benefit the main pair? This keeps getting weirder and weirder.

He seems to have good metrics, and almost certainly would be an improvement on Eakin/Ritchie/Lewis. Good pickup.

As I said, assuming 13 forwards, 5 of these guys (or someone else) will be with the big club:

Lucic
Lewis
Ritchie (hurt)
Rooney
Zohorna
Eakin
Ruzicka

My guess is Eakin is out. Then, when Ritchie is ready, someone else gets waived.

I love this pick up. Maybe his goal song can be "Me So Horny"? Hopefully he doesn't score too much!

There sure never seems to be a bunch of trades happening a week before the season starts so I'm not sure where they are supposed to pick up a skilled top 6er to push everyone down right now.

Honestly, how does claiming someone hurt the team in any way? No one knows if he clicks with this team yet but what does it hurt?

From the one highlight looks like he can skate and uses his size to protect the puck. I like it, let’s see if they can get him in some pre season games.

https://triblive.com/sports/penguins...rough-waivers/

Quote:
“They just put me on waivers,” Zahorna said following Monday’s morning skate at the Penguins facility in Cranberry. “It means nothing right now. I just have to go the same way as I did (before) in camp. I’ll work hard and play the same way.”

Capable of playing either center or wing, the 26-year-old appeared in 17 NHL games last season and scored six points (two goals, four assists) while averaging 10:20 of ice time per contest last season. With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Zohorna played in 29 games and scored 12 points (12 goals, nine assists)

In three games this preseason, Zohorna had no points, three shots and six penalty minutes.

“I didn’t have bad games,” Zohorna said. “But I haven’t scored a goal or I haven’t had a point. That’s a big thing for me, I think. I had a couple of chances or have a point. It’s not bad, not good.”

“We’re at the point where it’s all about hockey decisions right now and we’re trying to field the very best team,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said following Monday’s morning skate. “And performance matters. I think (Zohorna) has played extremely well throughout the course of this training camp.

During Monday’s morning skate in advance of a road preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings, Zohorna served as the Penguins’ third-line center with incumbents Jeff Carter and Teddy Blueger absent due to undisclosed injuries. It is not clear how the Penguins may adjust their lineup for the contest in the wake of Zohorna’s departure.

Lucic - Ruzicka - Zohorna would be an intriguing 4th line
