Could be a great 4th liner who can slide up to the 3rd line. Probably signals doom for Eakins and Milano too, which is also good. I think Eakins could at least not be a liability, but I don’t see what he adds that we need. And Milano other than one hot stretch early last season doesn’t offer anything in my view. That hot stretch was mostly due to Zegras from what I saw.
What are waiver claim rules? Do they have to keep him on the big club for a certain amount of games? Please enlighten me... Definitely intrigued with this claim.
He failed to clear waivers, so if the Flames want to send him to the AHL at any point this season, he will need to clear waivers first.
At that point, any team can put in a claim, but if Pittsburgh puts in a successful claim, and is the only team that puts in a claim, the Pens would be able to send him to the AHL without putting him on waivers again.
He is in the final year of a two-year contract that pays league-minimum and will be a UFA next summer.

Why would this signal Eakins out? Not that I care if Eakins makes the team but picking up a guy on waivers during pre season probably means he has an uphill battle ahead of him to make team. This new guy is also a left winger. Do we really need more of those ?

Has incredible size (6'6", 220 pounds) and the versatility to play all three forward positions, which adds loads of value to an NHL franchise. His scoring ability is somewhat limited, so he is best utilized in a bottom-six forward role at the highest level.
Long Range Potential: Huge, versatile forward.

If a team claims a player, even in preseason, they must remain in the NHL. To be cut to the AHL on their new team, they require waivers. This is the reason why the overwhelming majority of players clear waivers.
Once a team claims a player from waivers, it may not trade that player unless it first offers him to any other teams who made waiver claims for him. If the claiming team places the player on waivers in the same season and his original team claims him, the team may send the player to the AHL without placing him on waivers again

This is confusing. Why? Another bottom six forward? Another LW? Don't we have both of those in spades? Who gets bumped seeing as they have to keep him on the roster?
