I'm a Dube fan, but I don't like him there. He likes to carry the puck and lead zone entries, which is fine on other lines, but if he is playing with Huberdeau and Lindholm, I don't want him as the puck carrier

High ankle sprains are tough to come back from, acl takes you out another 18 months and now we are in the bubble.
He played in a lower league for a bit and looked good but that's just not enough.

Do you prefer him with Kadri · Mangiapane, or Backlund · Coleman?
He has had some tantalizing chemistry with Manguapane in the past, and Backlund makes everyone look good.

I certainly hope so. He looked good while on the ice a few weeks ago when he was summer training. Fingers crossed he comes back at some point.

Either is fine, but I love the idea of Mangiapane - Kadri - Dube
Other teams would absolutely HATE that line
Then Rooney with Backlund, adding speed to that line (not that Dube doesn't have it, but he adds speed to Kadri's line)

Rooney is here to play the 4th line C. He's not a winger on the 3rd line. He's also not a top 9 forward his career high of 6 goals.

I was so hyped when he was playing overseas at a ppg pace wearing the shiny gold helmet.

Yes, but Eakin can also play 4th line C, which is why Rooney becomes intriguing on Backlund's line

He looked great but he was also playing in essentially a beer league.

We need Rooney speed to make up for Lucic and Lewis. Throwing Eakin in that line makes it almost unplayable. Elevating Rooney and putting Eakin into the lineup takes out a lot of offense.

Yeah he's just not very good.
Sutter always mentions Rooney, and he pushed for him and continues to mention we got eaten up at centre ice, I don't think he turns him into a winger. Roles a big with him.

I don't disagree with any of that, and I fully expect Rooney will be the 4C when the season starts.
I am just spit-balling because, IMO, Eakin has been the best of the guys vying for the final spot. And if Eakin makes it, his best positioning is 4c. Based on the games so far, Rooney looks like he could step up to the 3rd line.

hanifin has looked as rough as he did in the playoffs
if pasta could actually be had for him I would give it thought . Mackey looks ready and could be here longer term.

If you trade Hanifin now, with Kylington out, the D becomes:
Weegar - Andersson
Zadorov - Tanev
Mackey - Stone
Meloche
Yuk.
Now imagine what it looks like if Tanev gets hurt

After watching Valimaki and Stone tonight that should hopefully quiet the trade Hanifin crowd. Once those guys become options against high powered teams we will be in big trouble. They can't even break out clean.

Exactly. (although I have got Meloche ahead of Stone.)
And, not to belabour the point, but the established guys are not always going to look good in preseason. I am intrigued by watching Kadri, Huberdeau and Weegar because they are new, but virtually all of the vets are just trying to get up to speed, and not get hurt. It is completely meaningless if Hanafin plays out the remaining preseason games looking like hot garbage, because we know what he is, and how he will play this season.

Yes, the vets are trying not to get hurt. That's why I was surprised Nurse fought, twice tonight. What was he trying to prove? High priced dummy indeed.
