In a Sept. 23 media appearance, Dubé told a Sportsnet columnist that "I've co-operated in any way possible and will continue co-operating. I've done everything I can to co-operate."
"I will continue to do that. With it going on, I wish I could share more, but that's kind of all I can share up to this point," Dubé said.
He added to his statement the next day:
"With (the investigation) going on, I wish I could share more. But that's all I can share to this point. I would love to be transparent. I know that's all I can really say on it to be honest. For me, I wish I could tell."
So looking at those statements there are 10 players who say they are cooperating but do not deny involvement and 1 player who has not made any statement. 8/11 are not good odds...
Be interesting to see if it ends up going to trial after the non disclosure agreement. I’m guessing it has happened before. But also guess not very often.
Basing guilt on whether or not a player claims to have been in the room is stupid anyways.
Maybe for a guy who didn’t attend the event at all, sure. But for anyone else who attended, saying you were or weren’t in the room doesn’t mean a whole lot. In the room before? After? During? Participant in the assault? Witnessed the assault? Found out later? Had no idea it ever happened?
It’s ways more complicated than “I never attended the event”. Even for those guys, they may have known about, have heard rumours, seen pics/videos, texted with teammates. Maybe not guilty of the assault but did nothing to report it after the fact.
So while I’d prefer it I’d Dube was out of the country or something at the time, I think saying he’s cooperating is about the best we can hope for considering a bunch of players probably haven’t cooperated at all. Cooperating is better than wall of silence.
I know what you are saying overall and mostly agree. There are layers here. But not being in the room is a big difference. If you were one of these kids and knowing what we know now....would you rather have been in that room at the time or not?

It's going to be mandatory for players to participate in future investigations. Doesn't sounds too promising.
Why did the women allow that Smith to present them with medals with big smiles? Issue a statement after that he should step down. Seems like a odd way to protest.

It feels really easy to pinpoint who was or wasn’t involved based on those statements. Based on Dube’s statement it doesn’t feel positive at all.
Yeah, I mean, some guys flat out say they weren't there or didn't know about it. Then some are just saying they are cooperating, or their reps are saying they didn't do anything wrong, or something to that effect.
If you were not involved, then just say you weren't involved. Why wouldn't anyone who wasn't involved just say it? Makes no sense why you wouldn't.
I think this ends without any charges and the exact names are not leaked. Which kind of sucks for the guys who really weren't involved, because everyone will live under the shadow of it. Not to mention the victim of course.
