My prediction is Alatar or Pallando, but I think the wizards came in the third age. A nerd will need to confirm.

It would be boring if it was Gandalf. Plus, Ian McKellen's performance was too iconic for a nobody to try to reprise it.

But the show putting him in a brown blanket might be significant. Ol Raddy.

For a time, I was thinking Halbrand might be Sauron, but have abandoned that theory. I can't recall exactly, but wasn't Sauron captured by Numenor, and ended up defeating them from within? Regardless, it's just too soon for that.

Tolkein eventually settled on the Blues arriving in the 2nd age. And traveling east where the idea was to disrupt Saurons efforts to fully utilize the eastern armies like he could have.

The Blue Wizards arrived in the second age, and they don't have much of a back story in the books so the writers of the show have a lot of free reign in how they interpret their story.

As the story goes Numenor sent an army so great to Middle Earth to deal with Sauron that he just surrendered and came back to Numenor where he ended up manipulating them.

I agree with you that we are a season or two away from that.

My guess is Sauron will be revealed in the last 5 min of episode 8. Likely in Eregion where he is working with Celebrimbor.

I'm far from a Tolkien scholar, so a lot of my knowledge of the lore is second hand, But I did have a first thought when he landed, Bombadil. I've always thought of him as some kind of God/Jesus analog, and the imagery of his arrival just gave me the feeling that they want us to think he is evil while is in reality a passive god injecting himself into the situation.

Then I thought there was no way it's him, now I'm thinking it's possible but unlikely.

I have a weird sense of validation about liking the Rings of Power now that Sliver does as well. I should probably log off for a while.

Tom Bombadil is considered one of the oldest living beings in the universe. It's unclear if Bombadil or Treebeard are older, as both have been referred to as the "oldest". So asteroid man is very likely not ol Tom.

The scene with the fireflies was very reminiscent of how Gandalf would communicate with moths when he needed to call the eagles for help. Seemed intended to lead audiences in drawing a connection to Gandalf. His facial structure is also similar enough to Gandalf from the movies to feel familiar in that way too.

on the other hand, Elrond's facial structure looks nothing at all like Hugu Weaving so I don't know if we can go by that alone. Blue wizards are the only ones who should have arrived in the 2nd age.

Yeah, I think the producers might just be trying to mislead the audience with those kinds of hints.

My only complaint is Isildur’s sister is annoying AF and pointless. Seems like giant waste of screen time? Maybe I’m missing something, is she pretty important in the lore or what.

The character was created for the series. Given her building/architect type background, she could be involved in the future building of the Morgoth temple in Numenor and create tragedy for Elendil's family when she doesn't leave with them before the fall of Numenor.

Good episode. Many haven’t seen it yet so I won’t even do spoilers.

Best episode of the series.

To the earlier poster who questioned why the orcs were digging tunnels, makes perfect sense now.
