I'd prefer to keep the current defense intact. Especially so if Kyljngton ends up missing time.

Yeah, I guess that would be worth giving up Hanifin. But our top 6 D would take a hit if Kylington is gone for too long.

Unless there's a real chance that Kylly isn't back by, say, February, I don't see it as that big of a problem. The Flames have a surplus of defensemen right now, and regular season success is a distant secondary consideration for this group compared to postseason success.

Can we take advantage of the Leafs situation on defence with a more minor move ? Dont butcher the epic top 6 but look at dealing Mackey, meloche or valimaki for someone in their top 9

Maybe, but a minor move like that doesn't really move the needle. If the idea is to exploit a vulnerability, I'd want to aim higher, even if it means giving up more.

Fair argument . Signing Kadri and huby well past their primes signaled to every one here that we are all in. Might as well not stop there . We have the D, we have the goalies, we have the C depth . An impact sniper added to the fold and there would be no reason they aren't in the conversation with the top contenders. Just one top six player light of where they ideally want to be

This has to be the most complete team they have iced in decades or at least certainly the one with the least glaring holes

Huberdeau would turn nylander into a 90+ point player.

Stone played great in the playoffs and has an unique ability to come into a game cold (emergency injury reservist) and play great. No brainer and his cap hit is minimal.
