I don't see much risk in waiving Stone if they sign him. Lots of depth D get waived at the start of the year.

Yeah I miss-spoke. I should have said if he signs an NHL deal v. signing an AHL deal.

True, and most of them are not 32 years old. If I'm an NHL GM looking to pick up a cheap depth defenceman, I'm probably looking for someone with a little more future in him.

Right.

It does pay to be careful about that, since it's a common misconception that a two-way deal makes a player waiver-exempt. People pay attention to you, and you wouldn't want to spread misinformation by accident.

I don't listen to anything Jiri has to say. It started when he gave me a blue square.

Is it possible stone doesn’t want a contact? Maybe he prefers this? Because there is no way he hasn’t been offered or recognized by other teams

Meloche
Stone
Maki
Valimaki

But that's more on experience for Meloche, haven't seen him enough.

Maki and Stone are close. Stone has some intangibles and a cannon, I think Maki could be better in own zone soon (now)

It’s my understanding that he only wants to play in Calgary.

I don't understand the hesitation here. I think Stone has been great for his role, and probably deserves better to be honest. He is a perfect #6/7 d-man who is useful on a pp as well..

I’d take Stone as my 7th D any day of the week.
I think the Flames would too, they’re just sorting out how to move a dman or two to make room probably.

I’d wager they’re shopping Valamaki at all cost, but he’s probably not worth what he was 2-3 seasons ago

Maki? OK once is a typo. Three times?

I agree Stone and Mackey may be close, but while Mackey feels like a prospect, he is 26. Stone has NHL experience, Mackey may never get it so that makes it hard to count on him as your extra defender.

Darren Dregger, on TSN Insiders, said the Leafs were calling PTO defencemen around the league with Benn and Liljegren injured. There are 8 of them, including Stone

Stone is awesome is going to get a contract.

Its going to take someone really special to knock him out of the team.

Seems like a really good time to extort Nylander, Bunting or someone like that from the Leafs.

Nylander is one of the few players (and contracts) that might be worthwhile to make that move for.

Not for Bunting I wouldn’t think. Nylander would cost Hanifin alright, and I wouldn’t want to see that deal happen.

Edit … Bunting is a LWer, so scratch that idea.
