I guess its hard to know what the Oilers would or will do if the win a regular season divison crown, as they have not done so (to my knowledge) since 1987

Not to mention the fact that I think every other NHL team does the same thing.

Someone said this on twitter last week and I pointed out Tampa, St. Louis, Colorado all having the same banners up.

Of course when you haven't won a division title since 1987 you can be excused for not knowing this.

If true, that is surprising, as he was ranked 26th on the CP rankings. I hardly know his name.
6-3, 210 skates well. responsible in his own end. Pretty green still

Yeah, teams have been hanging banners for finishing at the top of their Division since the playoff format was switched in the early 90s.

Both the Flames and Oilers have hung a banner every time they've finished first in the Division since 1993-94. The Flames have 5. The Oilers don't.

That article is petty by even Tychkowski's standards.

I don't see him being top 9, and I don't see him displacing Lucic, Lewis, Rooney, Ritchie for the 10-13 spots.

Except all he had to do is look up in the rafters in Rogers Place.

In 1985/86, when the Flames knocked the Oilers out in the 2nd round, the Oilers raised a banner for 'President's Trophy Winners'

So apparently, regular season banners are a thing in Edmonton as well.

Yes. Bizarrely so. For a team that is supposedly so far past the Flames in their competitive window, having just won a playoff series it is astonishingly insecure. It's ####ing preseason.

Don't the oilers also have a banner for winning some lame fan-vote a few years ago?

It still absolutes bewilders me how Oilers beat reporters, columnists... Everyone is just a cheerleader.

Even the Nugent-Bowman guy at the Athletic came across as an absolute blowhard on 960 this week. Just absolutely insufferable.

Ritchie to Group 2 and Posipisil and Pettersen to Group 1.

I can see Nikolaev and Kerins! starting in Rapid City this season, just to give them more ice time.

8 preseason games is way too many. I am not sure many players will deserve a another look after tomorrows game.

Here is another story about the supremely desperate insecurity of Oilers fans:

About a week or two back TSN published a short video from Darren Dreger's and Ray Ferraro's podcast in which they were discussing the Flames as one of the most interesting teams heading into the new NHL season. You know, on account of the several franchise altering changes made over the summer.

The very first comment on the video? You guessed it: a butt-hurt Oilers fan whined: "How are the Flames more interesting than the Oilers?" This is on a 4:00 minute video which does not feature any hint of the Oilers in the title, and at no point makes even a passing mention of them.

Sure hope Kylington is doing OK. Camp is well under way, I'm doubtful he'll be ready for the season.

Any hints about what he's facing back home? Is he in danger of missing significant time?
