You have selected, Sam Bennett. If this is not what you have selected, press 1 now.

I have to think he earned another contract with his play in the pre-season and especially with Kylington's mystery status.

Agreed, I think he is the perfect 6/7 defender.

Then we should buy him out after this season and then sign him to league minimum next season!

Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts podcast:

“The Leafs will factor Connor McDavid into their long term cap plans.”

“Oilers should be wary of the Leafs, especially in the cap situation there currently in.”

“Leafs are going to go all out in pursuing Connor McDavid.”

This just warms my heart!!

So Leaf’s planning to let Matthews walk?
Can’t afford both, or maybe they’ll just continue to go all offensive and no defence and bomb come playoffs as usual.

I guess with Tavares gone and 1 of Nylander or Marner and they’d make the room up.

Just speculation but I would love to see a deal based around Hanifin for Tarasenko at some point. Watching Huberdeau play like a video game has increased my desire for an elite sniper

Tarasenko is a pending ufa though . Hanifin would be a massive overpay

I think it's moreso Leafs have come to terms that Matthews most likely won't stick around as Leaf once his contract is up. I get the same vibes from Matthews as I do Chucky in that his heart is in the States, and he will be going to an American team once he is UFA.

I honestly think Matthews feels like he can save hockey in Arizona and that is what both the team and him (and maybe even the league) are looking towards in two seasons.

Then Tavares big deal expires in three seasons, which happens to coincide with McDavid's contract expiry.

That's $22.6M of cap opening up in Toronto.

Stop talking about trading Hanafin please. Yes he’s American. Doesn’t mean he is itching to leave. Stop the PTSD.

Is this really any better? Maybe the only team in the league that would be more annoying for Connor McDavid to play on. You would simply not be able to interact with sports media in this country. The center of the universe complex would grow to unfathomable levels

31 year old UFA who has asked for a trade in exchange for Hanifin? There is no need to pay that price. That’s a rip off.

Also he scored less than Mangiapane last season.

It makes the Oilers worse so that's better.

For Toronto it only happens if they lose Matthews, so really that's pretty much nets out to even.

So yeah it's better.

True.. but can you imagine the salt pouring down the highway from Edmonton if they lost McDavid it would be glorious

Toronto probably holding back on releasing the pics of McDavid in Leaf's PJ's until closer to the time, savvy move.

Pastrnak would really put this team over the top, IMO.
