Even if he has a poor training camp, he played okay last year and the potential is enormous.
Asset management thinking if he does not earn a spot on the roster after camp what is he worth in a trade?

At this time of the year, every team has a Ruzicka to sneak through. He has some value but I don’t think it’s very high. His best value to the Flames is to make the team and proves he belongs.
So far he has been very inconsistent. Maybe still early, I don’t know but it’s hard to be on his bandwagon when the effort/results are unpredictable

I think its a bit different for Pelletier and Phillips, they are working to crack the top 9
I doubt the flames would carry them to play 4th line or press box type of a thing.
However with Ruzicka, due to his size. He is likely a checker type of player.

I find Pelletier's underperformance last camp and this camp perplexing. opportunity is there, but he won't run with it. At least not yet.

Darryl has already said he doesn't want him in a 4th line role

I assume you are referring with Ruzicka,
I am surprised, he looks like a 3rd liner (best case) more likely a 4th liner type of player

I wouldn't have much problem with Ruzicka spending time at 4C, whereas I think a Phillips or Milano would be best suited to the second or third line.
At this point, I don't think Pelletier is really in the running. Milano and Phillips showed enough last night to still be in that competition. I think the last top-nine spot will ultimately come down to the two of them, and right now I think Milano probably has a small leg up.
With how crazy the travel arrangements were yesterday I think it's premature to write anybody off, and Pelletier could certainly show more, but I'm starting to think it might be better for his development to play with Zary on the top line with the Wranglers this year.

I have no idea if I'd trust game score for a pre-season game to be honest.
Pelletier and Phillips would be negative defensively because I believe both were -2. But I don't think either was at fault for each goal.
Also the whole thing seems off with every Flames forward having a negative offensive impact, and then just a bunch having positive defensive impacts.

Yeah Ruzicka, 4th liner because he is big? the guy has skills and I don't think the Flames want to play him 5 mins a night. They are trying him on the wing because they don't want him as a 4th line center.

I think the only think that may keep Pelletier in the running is that he's just a great PKer.
Even last night when he was fighting the puck a little he was great on the PK.
Darryl might see some value in that for sure. I do agree though long term being top line with Zary in the AHL this year is potentially best for his development, especially with the team in Calgary now where they will be getting a lot of time with our skills and development staff and are closer to the big team.
His waiver status alone makes it easier to just send him down too.

Pelletier was really good on the PK last night, I bet that holds a lot of weight with Darryl
I wouldn't take these cards too seriously

Nah, watched him play last season, plus the two preseason games this year.
In my opinion he does not look like a top 6 forward....
He looks like a 3rd/4th liner if he can crack the lineup

Phillips blocked three shots, too ... ultimately I think there are mainly positives to take away from the game, I think they stayed in it pretty well despite some unfavourable travel circumstances. Would like to see Milano get a contract.

I think he is going to have to show a lot more, we already have guys that probably won't do much offensively in PK roles like Rooney and Lewis, we don't need another player on the roster who is a PK specialist with no offence.
It would be wasting development time playing 8 minutes a game on the 4th line, that's why Sutter doesn't want to play Ruzicka on the 4th line.

There is a massive difference between the 3rd and 4th line on this team...and you watching him play a handful of games is pretty irrelevant
Coach wants him in the top 9 or in the AHL...he said so himself and that is why they are trying him on the wing because he obviously isn't a top 3 center on the Flames

I believe he played 28 games last season, in a 3rd / 4th line role.
With the Flames depth, there are lots of options
Of course its not relevant,

Phillips was a force in the third period and should have had a goal. Ironically, if he was bigger he would have had the reach to likely cash in. What is going to hurt is the play in the first two periods. It was his man and the poor gap control that led directly to the first goals. The second goal was a shorty where he showed no hustle in getting back. The only player he beat back into the Flames zone before the puck went into the net was Dube, who turned it over at the blueline and was engaged in a check. Those little things are what the coaches are going to look for in the film and it's not going to play out well. But that third period was way better and may earn him another looksee.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Ruzicka played with Lucic on the 4L a few times and looked good doing it but thats not where he's going to develop into the player they feel he can be. His growth would ultimately be stunted there. If he can't push into the top 9 he's better off playing top 6 minutes routinely for the Wranglers.
Last night didn't help his cause though. They tried him on the wing, it went poorly and they moved him back to C where he'll find himself in the A

I'm not sure you are listening to me
3rd line yes
Darryl doesn't want him on the 4th line...he said as much. Could he pop up for a game or two and fill in? sure but that is not how they would like to develop the player.

Phillips' man didn't score either of the first two goals ... the first was Pelletier, who wasn't covering anyone while Phillips pursued the puck-carrier. The second one came after Dube fumbled the puck at the point and couldn't get back.
Phillips didn't have a great first two periods, as you mentioned, but pinning either goal on him is inaccurate. But he's gonna need to start scoring or setting up Flames goals to actually stand out.
