I think Pasta is going to be THE big target at the deadline (…I doubt the Bruins make the playoffs this year).

Dude would certainly be a tantalizing option…it’d likely require an 8 year, $10M AAV to lock him up though and that would certainly change the structure of the team going forward.

Playing with arguably the best playmaker in the NHL he would be a 50 candidate yearly, so he would be worth it.

We would probably be squeezed by the cap for a year before it goes up giving some relief.

good - that's exactly what Treliving's response should have been

OMG pasta is a dream. I've wanted him since the draft year... Knew he was going to be amazing. Can't see Boston going that crazy. Also I think it would take more than Hanifin.

Perhaps it would be. Players like Pasta are generally not available at the trade deadline.

Think of the bidding war for him?

It's really impossible to think where it would land.

Hanifin is only 1 additional season from UFA. Let's be honest, Hanifin is an excellent player, very very good steady defenseman, and young. But he's not a 40+ goal scorer in this league and doesn't have that value.

It's Hanifin + Coronato or our 1st imo and I think i'd still do that, especially if we had the opportunity to talk extension prior to completing the trade.

Yeah absolutely not, this reminds me of the Mark Stone packages. Without any assurances of him signing, we will not be trading a top pairing defenceman, a top 2 prospect, and 1st round pick in one of the deepest drafts for a guy who can walk.

Hindsight and all, but what an example. You make that stone trade 10/10 if it's available knowing what we know now. Valimaki+Zary can't sniff Stone's jock strap and a big RHS RW is exactly what we need.

We picked Zary we don't know what Ottawa does with that pick. Also wasn't it 2 of Valamaki, Anderson and Kylington plus the picks. Our defence would be in shambles right now. Even if Stone signed, we would have to gut the team to sign him and Tkachuk that offseason.

For one Stone wouldn't sign the immediate extension here that he did in Vegas, two the guys career is looking like it could be done sooner rather than later because of injuries

Hanifin is a 25 year old dman who just put up 48 points and +27. More than good and steady.

that is waaaaaaaaay too much

Is Hanifin even a need for them to ever give up one of the best goal scorers in the league when they have H. Lindholm?

Flames can't afford to extend him if they got him anyway. Pastrnak currently makes $6+M, doubt he'll make less in his next deal

I dont understand how y'all can see what we just received in a trade for Tkachuk and not understand what Pastrnak's value likely is.

I don't think most gms are dumb enough to call Tkachuk a generational talent and gut their team for him.

Pastrnak is also a UFA, he can walk after the season. Mark Stone is the best comparable I think of an that's if he's even available.

There’s plenty of teams that would pay big for a guy like Weegar. Look at a team like Washington- they don’t have a lot after Carlson on their back end. I could see Jersey, Pittsburgh, and NYR just off the top of my head. Boston could use him too- Hampus Lindholm is a great two-way guy, but will never put up the kind of points Weegs can.

Same thing goes for Hanifin.

100% agree with all of this. Someone will pony up for Weegar.

I think what the Flames need to do is this:

- Try extending Weegar. If you can get him to sign, then do it without hesitation.
- Ask Hanifin his contract demands. If they’re outlandish, maybe explore trading him. We can always sell him at the draft, especially if we can sign Weegar.

This is the only year we will have the luxury of a great defense, especially on paper. Every defender on the Flames is at a bargain level contract, with maybe the exception of Zadorov. I think Weegar will wait it out, at least until the 2023 season hits.

Sucks we didn’t do the trade for Stone, woulda been such a solid team, he’s Lindholm but at RW, and Valimaki is a none factor these days, brutal he’s what held the trade up

What held the trade up was that Stone had no intention of signing a deal with the Flames. He would have walked years ago leaving nothing to show for the assets they traded.

There is no scenario in which Mark Stone would be a Calgary Flame today.
