Thanks, I'll have to look around, Silver Inn was super close to my house. Driving back downtown at rush hour is low on my list of things to do!

I know you are north central so Peking Garden in Varsity might be close enough for you. It is pretty good food and they recently launched a gluten free menu. I've never had the gluten free items but some people have reviewed it online and say it is good.

You're a core member of the "people who live in a tent in the parking lot of Silver Inn" demographic.

Ya, I've heard mixed results from that place(people getting sick). Though I'm not sure if that's the gluten, or their health standard reviews they keep failing with AHS, so I've never gotten the guts to try it.

I've learned to not bother checking on inspections unless a restaurant is actually shut down. I just looked at both Peking Garden and Silver Inn and the latter actually looks like it has more violations during recent inspections. When it comes to eating out it is almost best to take a head in the sand approach.

We've never had any issues with Peking Garden, although we generally order Peking Duck from there - I have no idea whether that has gluten though.
My go to order whenever people who can't/won't do gluten are involved is White Elephant. Obviously Thai food is different than Chinese food, but nearly everything on the menu is gluten free and it's excellent.

Anyone know what is going on in Confederation Park right now? Just biked passed it, and there are millions of vehicles and billions of people.

Ya, I think they had a shut down years ago which tipped me off. Every time I consider the place I check the health orders, and they just seem to go on and on. And not petty ones. Usually I don't check, but for some probably really illogical reason my brain won't get passed it for that restaurant.

Yep. I once looked at the City’s food inspection site out of curiosity. Every restaurant had violations. Literally every one. Many of them pretty gross. It’s honestly better not to know.

Remember outside of mice feces your house is probably worse for poor food safety practices

I just remembered all about Jerusalem Shawarma. Probably the only restaurant that was actually saved by the pandemic.

Looks like that was 8 years ago and it was a fine and not a closure. They managed to survive so maybe they cleaned up their act to an acceptable level.

I recently read they had re-designed the pathway due to a fatal accident of a skateboarder that occurred there (last year?). Maybe this was a cermonial/memorial opening of the new design?

They are only halfway through that project, I think it was a kid on a bike. It was a bit treacherous coming down that path in the winter, so hopefully it's an improvement. But I don't think this gathering was for that.

It's interesting, talking to some Chinese folks, they did not like Silver Inn much, thought it catered to western tastes but the photos look delicious to me! It's that old school Chinese restaurant quality that I feel is going extinct. I don't think I can say I've ever had the pleasure of being there.
The best Chinese food I've had in the past year was Marco's Kitchen across from Peter's Drive In on 16th!
