The car is in Seattle, it belonged to my uncles neighbor who recently passed away. I last saw the car about 15 years ago, and it was in amazing condition then and apparently it hasn't been driven in about a decade.

When I saw it all those years ago, I told him.... if you ever want to sell it, have John call me! Well it's in the estates hands now and I've made my intentions known, just waiting to see if they give me a fair number.

Cosmetically it's apparently ultra clean, but a decade of sitting could be expensive mechanically.... but not Ferrari sitting for a decade expensive. And I am sure there's hundreds of leathery old mechanics that would kill to once over the car.

The Javelin was such a underrated car. I've always said, if you could define the 70's aesthetic with a car.... it's the 71-74 Javelin.

Just sat down with Salesman and got my Lightning ordered. Holly Hanna, $111,095 plus GST for a Lariat with the long range battery. Should be ready to go by February. Now to contact the wholesalers about exporting it and making some money. If I can’t export for $$ the dealer will keep it, and by “keeping it”, they’ll sell to someone else.

Bro, not sure if serious, but I hope you’ve put a massive non-refundable deposit down and ford postpones your vehicle for long enough where you won’t make a dime.

No finance condition or "extra deposit"? I inquired with a few dealers a few months back and all of them either wanted mandatory financing for 6 months or an extra $10k deposit paid on delivery, and to be refunded once the purchaser could show they still owned (possessed technically) the car for either 6 months or 12k km.

I didn't care enough beyond hearing that to look into it any further. Damn greasy domestic dealers.

Yah some are really greasy. I’m well connected with my local dealership having worked their previously and remaining friends with those that matter. We did good on the “wife’s” Bronco but the MSRP’s spiked 10k from the ‘22 to the ‘23 Lightnings.

Figured Ford would prohibit export on this type of vehicle (like holding back the compliance letter for at least a year). Had that type of deal with Mercedes.

So you are using your position of employment to wrangle a deal so you can buy a vehicle in high demand, and sell it right away hoping to make a profit? And you don't see why people would find that skeazy?

Never had an issue with either GMC or Ford yet, as long as the 6 month/ 8000km criteria met. The broker put the Bronco on a dyno for 2 days (1200km) to hit the magic number.

Nope I don’t work there anymore and paying full MSRP just like (sadly) everyone else is these days, reserved my spot through the Ford website like everyone else. It’s just a commodity. Spent 2016- 2019 while working for dealership flipping trucks every 6 months or so. Buy when incentives are good and sell when you are able to without getting “flagged” as an exporter by the manufacturer. Made money on most, didn’t on others.

Flipping luxury items for profit is not quite the same as hoarding essentials and gouging desperate consumers.

It’s not bitterness. I dislike when people don’t look past their own nose. Not only are you taking a vehicle out of the local new market, you’re removing it from the used market on the future, and driving up local price while avoiding being labelled the very thing you’re engaged in.

It’s the exact reason manufactures are overstepping their bounds and trying to control the post-sale marketplace. Because people need to be controlled into not being #######s for their own soft earned profit.

Not to mention, people are having to wait months, and sometimes over a year, to get a new vehicle - there is a huge shortage vs demand right now.

Taking up a spot in the queue, simply to flip the vehicle in the US, is really inconsiderate to the people that are waiting (longer because of this) for theirs

Is that type of "possession" clause even legal? It sure sounds pretty bogus. Did they have an out for insurance write offs or would you lose your $10k because of a total loss?

My friends, Derek Sutton is the same poster who blamed Biden for making it too easy for him to underpay illegals to lay tile for him as day labourers. Flipping a luxury vehicle is not even going to register on the “inconsiderate” scale for him. He’s off in an entirely different reality.

Posting about it is super weird, but who can blame him.

Now back to our regularly scheduled “people talking about their luxury vehicles” thread. I want to read more Van chat. Where’s Sliver?

Oh FFS, Does it really matter if it goes to Canada or the US? The demand down there far exceeds demand here, based or your logic, trucks SHOULD go down there to fill the greater demand. Should I not be selling my current truck to the US for more money over trading it in to a local dealer because it is my responsibility to help fill the “local” need for trucks? Of course not. So I own it for 6 months and sell it to a broker for profit and the broker exports it. Capitalizing on the market is nothing new to any industry, be it real estate, stocks, vehicles or hockey cards.

The moral high ground of select CP members is very entertaining. “All commodities must be sold at a loss for the greater good.”

You were correct right up till the “underpay” part of your post. Paid what they charged plus a bonus plus lunch.

This was one that made the news. Dealership kept a $1 lien on the vehicle to prevent it from being re- sold. The Owners story is completely bogus however as the lien was placed on the vehicle because the purchaser was a known exporter and on the GM “blacklist”. The dealership was covering their butt, when really it would’ve been much easier for them if they’d just turned the purchaser away.

The dealer quoted in the article calls the $1 lien a "new methodology"... I'd take that over the $10,000 extortion, er, "deposit" his store tried to impose on me. #### that guy.

Again, #### these slimy domestic dealers... They get one second in the sun where their products aren't perpetually discounted and they can't help themselves.

Review of the new Hyundai Tucson PHEV, sounds like the perfect vehicle for commuter/grocery getter to rival the Rav4 Prime.

Heh, I'd never heard of nor imagined that Hyundai Smart Park feature. Real world practicality seems virtually nil, unless you get pranked a lot or something. Maybe it would be fun to take your car for a 'walk'. Or maybe it would help you do the pranking.
