I was greeted this morning from an office Oilers' fan with "Holland is a genius" ... I asked why? He said because "he signed Mcleod at (or near) league minimum and that now they don't have a cap issue". I said, that's good, that signing doesn't make the cap situation any worse and fills out a roster spot with the minimum cost, but it doesn't make the cap shortfall magically disappear - signing players never does that, you need to move players or place them on LTIR (if they're injured or not in Edmonton's case) to do that - I told him, even with Klefbom and Smith on the LTIR, the Oilers are still one roster spot short and now 1.2 million over the cap (up because of the Mcleod signing).
I really don't think Holland or the Oilers or their fans understand how the cap works at all... it's amazing how they think signing a player to a good deal (and he thinks McLeod took a huge Edmonton discount to play there, he said like Nurse did in 2020... that's debatable, I think Nurse and management thinks he took a deal) will reduce their cap.
They love Nurse up there, I keep asking.... Makar or Nurse, Fox or Nurse - who would you take... they take Nurse.... I know we don't like our 2016 - 66th draft pick around these parts for good reason... but I'd take both Makar or Fox over Nurse any day, and it's not even close for either one.
Delusional is all I can say.

Dude got mad on twitter because when he said Nurse was "slightly" overpaid I laughed and said $3-4M isn't slightly. He fell back on the "he's the 1D" defence. I told him that just means his team has a crappy D corps.

You're right... The Flames have a 1D as well... pick any Flame for that roll and you're under 5 million... that means nothing... Every team ranks their players, would he be a 1D on every team in the NHL... I don't think so, but that's what matters.
Now... let me say... I'd take Fox if he had a better attitude to playing here... but I still wouldn't take Nurse at 9.25 million over 8... that's a terrible signing.
