Teo's at bat resulted in a xBA of .700 and everyone is handing him the goat horns? Yes, the 2-0 swing was bad, but he ended up hitting an absolute rocket. That's baseball.

If anything I blame Zimmer more. Probably nothing he realistically could have done, but it annoys me that guys "freezing" on a line drive are always taking at least one step forward before stopping.

That swing lost them the game, simple as that. They had him dying on the mound and getting booed he was so bad. Teo saved him.
That swing was bad but it didn't lose them the game. He still hit the ball hard on a later pitch.

What lost them the game was the error by Bichette. He makes that throw and the Phillies don't get 3 runs in the inning. Bo threw the game away in the 8th.

Not really I’ve looked at highlights of that play. It was a slow hit and Bo had to throw across his body and Segura is fast. The error cost them second base. Even an on target throw doesn’t get the runner out. What cost them was the 3 straight hits after that play and poor situational hitting in the 8th and 10th.

You had to think they were due for at least some regression.

June 19 they were 29 and 39, ten games below .500. Since that point and up until their series with the Angel on Sept. 16 they were 51-23. Basically a .689 winning percentage in that run, pretty much the same as the Dodgers. They were due for a minor correction.

And even after they swept the Jays those 4 games you didn't walk away impressed with the Mariners. It was more about how bad the Jays were and them beating themselves. Hence the Montoyo firing.

Seattle is a franchise on the up and up but they still have a lot of holes. I wouldn't be completely surprised if they continue faltering and Baltimore makes up some serious ground. I would also laugh if the team that hasn't made the playoffs in 20 years somehow misses this year with a 4 game lead and 15 games to play.

The Mariners were well overdue to turn into a Pumpkin. They have a lot of 3 outcome hitters in their lineup with overall low walk to k rates. With Suarez now injured, that one solo jack they hit isn't producing any runs. You could argue that Julio gave them a shot in the arm and that whatever their record is with him in the lineup being a better reflection of what they are vs the team who were 10 games under 500. But overall they are more of a 85 win team to me than a team winning at a 100 plus game clip.

Infuriating, actually.

There is a discernible difference between the advantage of home field (which this season hasn’t even been an advantage, barely) and the advantage of having Manoah pitch a playoff game over whomever would now have to pitch 3rd, which is likely Berrios.

Astronomically stupid if this happens

The wild card round will be played in whatever team has homefield advantage for all games. So, it isn't a bad move IMO.

I get that. But if your best pitcher can’t pitch in an entire series?

It would be different if we had the pitching depth of Seattle or Tampa, but the difference from Manoah to Berrios is massive

For example, if Manoah is out;

Gausman vs Ray - even
Stripling vs Castillo - huge advantage Mariners
Berrios vs Gilbert - huge advantage Mariners

Tampa would look similar

Yeah - I'm saving Manoah for the wild card, home field advantage be damned.

Uh oh. Is bad Berrios making an appearance tonight? He's had a good September. Was hoping he turned the corner.

And what was Biggio thinking throwing to home?!!! Dude wasn't even close and just gave Arozerena 3rd. Tampa will score that run 100% now.

Bad Berrios is here tonight watch out.

At least it's not an important game or anything.

This is a prime example of why Berrios, under no circumstances, can be allowed anywhere near a must win, sudden death playoff game.

Game 162 is a “want to win”
WC game 3 is quite literally a “must win”

He did! A nice little solo shot over the left field wall. Miracles do happen.
