Hopefully the Panthers suffer a strong and steady demise. That division they are in is no joke at the top and the way Ottawa and Detroit are building the Panthers might be on the outside looking in before they know it.

Would be pretty funny.

Would have been even more fun to cheer for their demise if we still had their 1st Rounder.

We still might. That Monahan trade was so complicated we will not know for years what pick we gave up.

The Flames-Panthers deal it is protected in 25 but unprotected in 26. Habs deal is so messed up someone else will need to explain but I know they can take our 24 pick if it is 20-32 if the Habs want it

I don't think there is any worry of losing a potential high Florida pick

I think originally it was stated that it was top 10 protected in 2025, so the Panther's could choose to keep that and then send over the 2026 pick instead, which would not be protected. So there was a chance that if they were bad enough in 2025 that they chose to keep that pick, that the next years pick would also be in the higher draft areas.

I get that part but I'm pretty sure that pick would be protected from Montreal if it were really high

He is but "never seen talent like that" is a massive stretch considering his line mate scored 115 last season and he has seen a lot of McDavid

Barkov is not the most talented player in the NHL, he is up there but Tkachuk has seen talent like that in his life

What makes him special is the elite level of two-way play, without sacrificing offense.

He still isn't the most talented player Tkachuk has ever seen but he also said they are winning multiple cups so I can appreciate him pumping tires to win fans/friends

Well I don't want to get into a tiff about it but I think Barkov is, overall, more talented than Johnny. But talent is a broad term and everyone's definition of it is different

For me talent includes combinations of size, skill, skating, and overall play.
If we are talking about JUST skill then yes I would say Johnny has more skill. But overall talent? I'll take Barkov all day long.

Semantics I suppose. But 'tis the time of year.

sure but those sorts of nuances aren't likely apparent on day one of scrimmage

still he is an amazing and elite player and Tkachuk is just doing NHL speak 101, praising a new teammate (and frankly one who deserves it)

Tkachuk also thrives on off-season hyperbole

He also said "seen" not "played with"
I'm not here to suggest Barkov isn't a great player but he isn't the most talented player on earth...and again I do understand what Tkachuk is doing here

Barkov is the best all-around center in hockey today and is very skilled in his own right. But I definitely find it hard to believe Chucky’s comments when he’s seen both McDavid and Draisaitl up close several times and played with Johnny Gaudreau who helped him score 40 and 100 points
