Add to the fact he was coming off 6 months away on tour dealing with an injury and he was seeded 17th . Because of all this he had a tough road to the final taking on some very good players at the time in Nishikori and Wawrinka and then to beat his nemesis in the finals, the man that probably cost Federer 5+ Grand Slams it was a pretty crazy story and something that I can look back 5 years later and appreciate.

I would probably agree with the 2017 AO title considering his age, being the 17th seed at this event, and the incredibly high form that Nadal and several other players that he had to beat were in. Feds was absolutely at his best at a very old age already.
Honorable mention goes to the 2012 Wimbledon title where he crushed Murray in the finals. Andy was at the top of his game, and simply mowing down the opposition until that point.

Hubi Hurkacz just took out Dominic Thiem in straight sets 6-3 6-4. You can see the improvements in Thiem's game, but he's still missing the match intensity that he needs. Credit to Hurkacz though, he is the defending champ of this Metz tourney and he played well today.

Oh man, Stan had a match point in the second set tie-break against Medvedev, but couldn't close things out and Danill survives to force a third set.

Stan breaks and is serving for the match at 5-3 in set 3.
Edit: Stan closes it out this time on his 3rd match point. 6-4 6-7 6-3 - Really great to see vintage Stan today.
Edit 2: 12 double faults for Danill today. That's no bueno.

This would be huge if Sock can deliver the upset win.
Edit: Nice overhead Jack
Edit 2: It was 3-0 Sock in the super-breaker, now it's 6-3 Ruud (first to 10)

Ruud takes the point for Team Europe. Remind me again, how many of these Laver Cups has McEnroe won as Team World captain?

IIRC you need players to play singles and doubles and everyday the points increase. So if you are taking Jack Sock for some reason it makes sense to get his singles loss out of the way when it's worth 1 point instead of tomorrow where it's worth 2. But anyway the lesson is never take Jack Sock on your team when Shapo is at home watching.

Yes, the points do increase on Saturday and Sunday, but there's already enough pressure on Team World without adding the extra task of trying to come back from a deficit. I mean, come on, you have Fritz, FAA, even Tiafoe raring to go and the first guy you select is Jack Sock? That's Charles Barkley turrible.

Sock is ranked 43 in doubles, it's not even like you're taking the goat of doubles tennis to sacrifice singles points. also, this event is really about star power and you're not getting that if Sock just has an automatic spot until the year 2035.

Team Europe is going to be up 2-0 on Team World in short order.
