Just for reference, Emile Poirier went on what Brad Pascal called "personal leave" when questioned why Poirier was not with the AHL team. It was later revealed Poirier was in the substance abuse program.

He said personal family matter, not personal reasons. I am not sure substance abuse even comes to mind when someone says personal family matter. Sick family member or something maybe, hopefully not.

Reached out to my season ticket rep, even they were unsure if it was watchable in person.
Anyone have any contacts/insiders that may know? I haven't seen word either way except for that deleted tweet SureLoss posted.

Maybe Kylington wanted that point to be clear. We all know the conclusions people can jump to. Hopefully everything is OK with him whatever the issue is.

Probably trading illegally copied VHS tapes of copyrighted materials.
Or maybe he's in the bridal party for his cousin's wedding this weekend... no that's boring, I like the VHS tapes better.
But seriously, my first thought was that someone in his family is seriously sick or just passed away.

The NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program helps players through a variety of issues. Including Texier for example, by encouraging his leave of absence for family reasons.
Note the name of the program and you can see how it may raise questions. Clarifying it makes perfect sense to me.

"Not substance abuse" makes it sound like he's had such issues, or it's something people have been talking about already.
It's a weird comment for sure.

Good to see Treliving clarify as these things tend to take on a life of it's own.

Kind of curious, but are we so sure that Rooney is a lock to make the team? I know his $1.2 million price tag suggests Treliving signed him with the expectation to be on the main roster, but it wouldn't be the first time the Flame sent down a pricier player. Ultimately, I think Sutter will make the call on who to cut and Rooney seems like someone who should be fighting for his place.

I think he's a lock to make the team, but he's not necessarily a lock to play in all 82 games.

As I mentioned in some thread or other, Capfriendly lists Rooney as playing all three forward positions. That's a useful thing to have, even if he winds up as the 13th forward. He can sub in for injury wherever he's needed.

I don't think so. Family and personal reasons are used a lot as cover for substance abuse issues. When Price went out, I assumed drugs.

He said that to stop social media from stating it as a truth which is so predictable it makes sense to get ahead of it.
Family health issue or mental health would be the obvious ones now

I find that not using facebook very often allows me to tell whomever "oh, i'm never on facebook" whenever it comes up.
