There are 8 defenseman that make more than Makar. 4 of those I don't see worth being mocked (Fox, Josi, Werenski, McAvoy). 2 are 3-4 years old (Doughty, Karlsson) so not really comparable to when Makar signed.
So MacKinnon is mocking Nurse. And probably Jones. But definitely mocking Nurse.

Well Lowe departed under the cover of relative darkness a month or so ago.
Given how he pulled the day to day strings overtly and from the shadows (even when Chia pushed him out for a couple years) for over 25 years, using little more than hubris and ego and his wildy out of date definition of what it takes to win in a team concept, that was a very uncharacteristic way to leave.
I mean he railed for years to the various press members to get elected into the HoF and finally did 26 years after retiring, so he could also have an Oilers ceremony and retire his number, so I would've at least expected one last year so he could do a final NHL tour and get faux congrats from some other execs.
Given his proximity to Katz and also Hockey Canada, I think there's some skeletons in his closet that appeared this summer, and bolted away quietly before they got discovered and he knew even he couldn't smooth those talk away. We will see in the months or years ahead.

Even if he was present, a summer full of celebrating from winning his Stanley Cup (ie, beating the Flames in the playoffs) would probably lead to a failed physical. Smith probably doesn't even remember what happened in the third round. Doesn't matter to him.
