Kane signed because no one wanted him. I don't even call what he signed for much of a discount and he was about to leave if Edmonton didn't up their offer.

They pretty much captured Hyman and kept in Edmonton until he signed. He also didn't take a discount to play in Edmonton and the contract was laughed at.

Agree to disagree on Kane. Scoring at a 40+ goal pace had something to do with that. And if the Hyman contract is laughed at, how was Coleman’s received?

Kane scored but also played with McDavid...Neal was the NHL goal scoring leader while on his line

No other team was giving Kane that term or even close.

Zero discount given in that case....he tried to go to market and came crawling back.

Everyone knew Coleman would get overpaid, but he also came off being a key cog on a back to back championship team. What did Hyman accomplish?

The Flames are signing cup champions and the Oilers are signing guys no ones. If no ones wants you except one team, how is that picking the Oilers over other teams? His sample size is also so small to give him that contract, once he settles in this year I am sure he will have his impact like he always does on the team.

Oilers made Kane the best offer by far IMO

If he turned down more money we would would have certainly heard about it.

Hyman may have chose them to play with McDavid but it certainly wasn't a discount.

Flames have 100% signed more high end free agents than the Oilers so the original argument doesn't hold up.

It seems like the Oilers media loves to add the Flames to the mix of any players they are trying to sign so they can say they picked the Oilers over us. Just like the Virtanen talk, calling us a finalist lol. Really a finalist for a PTO.

I think has beens or guys who want to resurrect their careers would definitely find signing with the Oilers intriguing based on hoping McDavid / Draisaitl can get them their next pay day. It was smart of Kane to sign there. No way he gets his current contract if he didn't play with those two.

If you are an established UFA that's sought after, I struggle to think of anyone who did sign in Edmonton to play with the two specifically. Hymen maybe? But was he that sought after, or did Oilers just overpay?
