Yep, their GM and coach get way too much credit
The Oilers are two players that neither of them have anything to do with.
They are a playoff team unless one of those guys misses significant time...if that happens look out Bedard

We would see if defense wins championships or if it’s high end offensive talent. Will be interesting to see how we do against other Canadian teams.
Flames are WAY better defensively than any other Canadian team but leafs and oilers have more/better high end offensive players.
Flames.
Leafs.
Oilers.
Rest.

We scored the 2nd most goals among the Canadian teams and 6th overall in the league. I think our offence doesn't get enough credit. We just can't get into 9-6 games that's not our style.

Flames won 2 9-6 games this season lol
I agree though the style favors the Oilers especially when our goalie is off his game. Flames should have won with either style but the goalie was bad and 2 guys had one foot out the door and we're more concerned about stats for their upcoming contracts IMO.

My list too, swap the Canucks and Sens.
Oilers and flames both improved this off-season. Tie breaker goes to the team that just won in the playoff matchup.
Think the Leafs are the class of Canada. Samsonov could be the wild card.

Honest question, how have the Oilers improved?
I have yet to hear a good answer
Cambell/Smith?
Keith was their best dman in the playoffs
They also have a cap issue to deal with here

Full season of Kane. Campbell is an improvement over Smith. I also think they’ve got prospects knocking on the door that will improve the bottom half of their roster.

T-1 - Flames/Leafs, edge to Flames for actually winning a round in the playoffs and stable goaltending. Who knows what Samsonov/Murray can do.
T-3 - Oilers/Sens, edge to Oilers only because the Sens only have a strong team on paper. I am confident it pans out though. Oilers also have an edge for making the Conference Finals. Helps their two best players went 2.0 PPG in the playoffs, but easily swept.
5th - Canucks, retained Miller and signed Kuzmenko, have arguably the best goalie in the division (Demko >= Markstrom imo), but everything else is just meh. They’re alright, but not good enough to make the playoffs over the likes of Calgary, Edmonton, Vegas, and even LA.
6th - Winnipeg, similar to Vancouver, have a decent roster and a workhorse of a goalie, but not good enough to be on top in comparison to their counterparts in the central division. Give me the Avs/Blues/Preds before they’re considered. They’re low in both rankings.
7th - Habs, they’re going to go through some growing pains, but you know what, they’ve rebuilt the correct way. Went for Slafkovsky, hoping that doesn’t bite them in the butt later on. They’re going to rely on Captain Suzuki, Dvorak, and Dach as their centers. It will take a couple years to climb up, but won’t be hard to do that with a few Canadian teams in need of a retool/rebuild soon enough.

1) Leafs: Pretty much same core players. Questionable goaltending. Murray is garbage now. Still some hope in Samsonov but fading fast
2) Flames: Stronger D. Can Huberdeau carry the team like Gaudreau did. Can Kadri replace Tkachuk. Vezina Markstrom or Oilers Markstrom?
3) Oilers: McDrai continue to carry them. Campbell faded at the end of his Leafs career. Will he make a come back? Can Kane continue to contribute?
Next tier
Sens- may jump up soon
Jets- underperformed- may surprise if everything comes together
Nucks- may surprise with Demko
Bottom
Habs

1) Oilers - they were a final 4 team last year, and really aren't worse. I hate to say it but its tough to have Flames above them with how the playoffs went last year.
2) Leafs - Good roster but I'm not sure Matt Murray is the answer for anyone in net.
3) Flames - I like the moves made this offseason but I think until you see how that comes together on the ice you need to be cautiously optimistic.
4)Sens - Really like the offseason moves, could honestly surprise and be higher on this list if the defense and goaltending comes together. Dangerous offensively.
5) Canucks - Could be a playoff team in the Pacific division but behind Calgary and Edmonton coming into the season.
6) Jets - Weird team that could surprise if Hellebuyck returns to Vezina form
7) Habs - Honestly who knows what this team does. Forward group is actually pretty deep but not a lot on defense or in net.

Show me anything that says Campbell is better than Mike Smith. He isn't.

And they are still over the cap

McDavid is 25. Finally tasted some winning. It is not impossible that he is still on the upward path.
That alone will keep them in contention for awhile
It’s not a guarantee but …..

The result of the alberta teams series frankly defied logic and how they matched up on paper. After game 1 edm people were talking about how they knew the Flames were a poor match up for them. And then the series b-lined for reasons unknown. I think the result was a self-contained incident of momentum getting the best of one team and fueling the other. I harken back to Columbus-Tampa. Flames had the expectations and crumbled at the hands of a game changing talent and couldn't recompose in time. But even dynasty teams like Tampa have to go thru that lesson before reaching the next level. Not saying Calgary is that but they are the best built roster in Canada for the goal of winning playoff hockey. And even though Edmonton made to round 3 I'm no more convinced that they have a team built to actually challenge than i was before then. The measuring stick was Colorado and they got Whooped.
