He will be getting booed pretty bad when he comes back but I think it’d be way more entertaining if instead of booing old Johnny every time he touches the puck the fans just cheered ridiculously loud every time new Johnny touches the puck…and if new Johnny scores they should play Johnny B. Goode, if old Johnny scores they should play the Ballad of John and Yoko. Not because I blame his fiancé, but because this is professional sports and shouldn’t be taken anywhere near as seriously as some people are taking it.

You seem to be taking this way more seriously than most here, which is saying something.
Why not give Johnny a polite welcome back for his years of services, and them spend our energy cheering the Flames.
Think about what you think the Oiler's fans would do, and then do the opposite.

I have no doubt Johnny will be booed in January but I am not sure this is a Fox scenario when he will be booed every time he touches the puck for the rest of his career. I could see it being a one and done type scenario especially if the Flames have more success in the post Johnny era.
I think the jeers are justified based on how it all went down but thanks to Tkachuk/Zito/Treliving/Kadri the flames were able to make a couple of great moves to hopefully improve this team going forward. If the Flames can conquer the Oilers or win the Cup next year the Gaudreau hate will dissipate and fans will be able to look more fondly on his time here than how he left the team.

Just like he didn't owe Flames fans anything, Flames fans don't owe him anything. I think it would be great to see Flames fans show some emotion in the dome instead of politely clapping. Boo him until your throats are sore!!

That’d probably be a good thing. I don’t have any issue with Johnny deciding to move on even if he handled it about as poorly as he could have.

Where is the fun in that? Again, this is pro sports. If people are boing because they legitimately hold ill will towards Johnny then those people probably need help, but if they’re boing him for the fun of it I don’t see why people have an issue with that. I don’t think Johnny is going to be losing any sleep over it.

The last thing I’m ever going to do in life is let how an Oilers fan would behave dictate what I would do in any given situation.

I am on board with this plan. Partly because it seems spitefully hilarious and partly because I too believe that since this is pro sports, its supposed to be fun and, as fans, if you buy the ticket you take the ride.
Also I dont blame his wife, frankly I think that Wives and Girlfriends should be off-limits. They're not the ones with the job in the public domain.
Once women's sport gets to the financial level of men's I cant wait for husbands to be blamed for where their wives sign.

Blaming wives and girl friends is completely out of bounds. Aside from the obvious implied misogyny, a husband should take into consideration his wife's desires when choosing somewhere to live. We don't even know if that was a factor here, but it doesn't matter if it was.
I can see if it is a trade situation where you have to move, because you know what you married into and those risks. But when it comes to free agency and a player getting to pick where they live, any husband should be making the decision as a family unit and not just for his own gain.

Have you been to a Rangers game? Fox is booed suitably
edit: Never mind, I read your post wrong. Boo Johnny, Boo Fox. /thread.
Does Tkachuk get booed?

The difference is, Johnny played and lived here for 8 years. Personally, I hope fans can appreciate and applaud him for that.

I think people are mad because they way he left not that he left. If he was traded, I'm sure people would applaud him, playing here for 8 years doesn't mean much , IMHO. If he is heavily involved in the community might be difference. That's why I have a soft spot for the likes of Stajan, he wasn't the flashiest or the best player on the ice, but he was heavily involved in the community.

As soon as the season was over Johnny was gone and came back mid September, his own words. Was he ever really involved in the Calgary community? A lot of people do things quietly but you still hear about, I never heard anything about Johnny.

A few things but I think they were more or less team mandated - Childrens Hospital appearances, etc. Not the above and beyond stuff like Backlund or Stajan.

I have never hear anything about Gaudreau involved in the community, golly, the new kid we got from Panthers went visited a sick kid in Children Hospital already, bring him a Flames jersey. Even Guy, his dad, played shinny with fans. I just don't think he embrace Calgary as much as he said in press conferences. If he never embraced us, why should we embrace him?

Yeah I don't think he was deeply involved with the city to make it hurt much. Its something I noticed with the new guys how they have talked about how they want to be get out and be involved in the community and give back. Its not a knock on Johnny he can do what he wants with his time, but its nice to see guys want to be involved. Even Burke comes back and hosts a event every summer, which isn't surprising if you read his book.

Being a Flames fan is tough sometimes. While we didn't see much playoff success with Johnny leading the way, the two moments that stand out (game 3 tying goal vs Ducks 2015 & game 7 OT winner vs Stars), Johnny is the one behind both.
It's hard to overlook those experiences for me and boo him when we haven't had much else going for us.
