Personally I hope he plays great in preseason while JP struggles, then the Oilers sign him and unload JP. That would be dynamite.

So glad he's not with the Flames, even just on a PTO.

Not sure on the exact quote but he mentioned Kane turning his career around with the Oilers and that being a factor

Where is this? I have been poking around at stories about this posted over the past hour, but cannot find it.

I left out the "and umms" and "ya know's".

And the "off the ice" at the end.

Interesting as they don't have the cap space to sign him if he does well.

With the injuries to Smith and Klefbom, I think they're about 300k over and that's with McLeod still needing a probably 1.5 to 1.7 million dollar deal so they could sign him and be 2 million over.

They have 11 forwards and 8 defenseman on their main roster, but even if they send Boberg to the farm, and find a way to dump Koekoek, that still doesn't bring them under the cap.

I doubt teams are lining up to take cap dumps for no reason right now and the Oilers are going to become increasingly desparate to move salaries.

The smart move would be to dump Barrie with a incentive, even eating half of his salary and sending a decent draft pick would go along way on the cap situation, and make him decent trade bait, though the Oilers blueline would become even more awful

If things don't work out in Edmonton, he can always go work at Hockey Canada. He'd fit right in there.

so, so happy he didn't end up in Calgary. Him and Edmonton seems a match made in heaven.

They need to run with a shortened roster or trade someone not on league minimum to even be cap compliant. You would think if Jake had a single other option they would be picking that over the "come to the worst place on the planet and play great but we probably can't sign you anyway" deal
Why is it an odd choice? If I were looking to sign a PTO somewhere, EDM would be at or near the top of my list: no depth, so better chance of making the team, and a chance that they throw me on McDavid's line and I can put up a few points, get a contract, and get traded (or sign elsewhere).

It's the perfect PTO landing spot, IMO.

They need to dump Barrie or Puljujarvi

They're going to be wondering why the locals are cheering for them when they visit Nashville and the fans start chanting "Let's go Predators!"

Except they can't sign him - they don't have any cap space and are currently over.

If he gets some pre-season time with one of the wonder twins maybe he can generate enough interest to get a contract offer from a team with actual money to spend, but the Coilers have zip as Capt. Crunch noted a few posts up.

Also a very tolerant organization and fan base when it comes to unsavory players. One of the few NHL cities he could be celebrated as a hero.

Yet.

If it's true the Flames had interest in giving him a PTO, we could still sign him to a contract instead of the Oilers.

Hopefully not, but the possibility's there.

They are currently over, but they HAVE to move someone in order to fill out their roster. Once they do (likely move Puljujarvi or Barrie, IMO) they will need some league-minimum players (preferably deuchebags, apparently)
