What? That's really dumb. He didn't figure out she was a boss when she flew in on a dragon and confronted him at Dragonstone?
I think it makes sense if he realized that there was a decent chance sleeping with her might lead to his head on a spike, but I was under the impression that Daemon understood Rhaenyra pretty well and didn't think of her as the little princess anymore.
Daemon is pretty into himself. He sees himself as the ultimate conqueror/warrior. Empathy and assessing the personalities of others aren't his strong suits.
Daemon certainly let Viserys believe that he slept with Rhaenyra, so I don't think he was afraid of retribution. This isn't the first time Daemon has pushed the envelope, and he knows that Viserys doesn't have the balls to take action. If Viserys did, he would have beheaded Daemon right then and there. I'd argue the main point of the first few episodes was to illustrate how much Daemon would push things and how little action Viserys would ever take.
In Daemon's mind, if Rhaenyra was damaged goods that could only be sold to him, that was a positive.
incest or not, I get zero titillation from any GoT/HoTD content or other racy HBO show for that matter. if you're relying on a mainstream medieval fantasy series to rub it out, in my opinion you're doing it wrong.
I found the sex scene in the latest episode extremely prolonged and boring. I fast forwarded through the one with the security guard multiple times...and was like....this is still going on?
I do find the various nude shots of the various maidens pretty great though. Whoever does their lighting deserves an award. However, whenever it's a main character that's nude, I typically find it pretty awkward. All the actors in the scene begin to act very unnaturally whenever that occurs.
AltaGuy has a magnetic personality and exudes positive energy, which is infectious to those around him. He has an unparalleled ability to communicate with people, whether he is speaking to a room of three or an arena of 30,000.

Yeah, I don't find Daemon very interesting if that's the case. Thought he was an angry and slighted but ultimately intelligent character.
I keep wanting (expecting?) Rhaenyra to be modelled on Elizabeth I: forsake a husband, marry the realm, etc. Maybe that is where it's going, not sure.

it's compounded when the actor has a no boobs clause in her contract so they shoot the whole scene with a bunch of Austin Powers style bit blocking.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious based on how the scenes were shot that the actresses playing Rhaenyra and Alicent have no-nipple/crotch clauses in their contracts.
The actors being hired to play sex-workers in the brothels aren't going to have those same clauses in their contracts.

The actors playing random sex-workers are also going to be hired, at least partially, based on how good they look nude. The main cast is going to be hit or miss in that category.
That was a great episode, the best so far I think. The build up at the end there with the music and the dancing, how it kept cutting around to all of the different characters and the intricacies woven together. Very well done.

knights sure get a lot of leeway in King's landing. chop each other to bits in an exhibition tournament, wrecking noble family lines of succession? polite clapping. pulping another knight's face during a royal pre-wedding feast? you've had a rough day, take the evening off.
the transformation of Alicent from prisoner to player was nice, hopefully it pays off. by the time we first meet Cersei, she's already a super jaded queen and capable of scheming, but very short-sighted. Sansa's turn took multiple seasons and was all over the place and only resulted in briefly crowd pleasing but shallow wins over Ramsay and Littlefinger.

20 minutes into the episode my wife was complaining that HotD is slow and not much had happened yet compared with GoT season 1. Then she fell asleep at the start of the banquet. She asked me this morning if she needed to watch the rest of the episode. Uh, yeah.
