Nice! Magpies can get stuffed - that is a beautiful bird. We had one in our yard once, I was hoping it would take up residence but I never saw it again.

A regulation carry-on can easily fit a weeks worth of clothes and a couple pairs of shoes (plus those on your feet). Also, laundry? If you're going anywhere for several weeks you'll need laundry at some point regardless.
I'm just going off my own weekend style carry on suitcase I have, that's about all you can fit in there when you include toiletries and all that. Yeah it fits in the overhead pretty easily, it could probably be a little bigger. Still not enough for 6-7 full changes of clothes though, I'm not sure how that could work in a carry-on sized bag. But as mentioned I'm an overpacker haha. I really wish I wasn't, it would make things easier...but I can't help it!

Yeah good point about laundry. Though I think I'd rather have to wait at the airport carousel for 20-30 mins then having to do laundry 2+ times/wk cuz I only have a couple changes of clothes, but that's just me.

The bragging about not checking a bag really has far more to do with what you do when you travel than how efficient a packer you are.

A business trip where I am working and maybe just need to bring workout clothes and professional attire? No problem in a carry on.

A nice length vacation where I may bring sports gear, outside wear, dressy clothes, casual attire etc. Why would I want to limit myself to a carry on? And once golf clubs are in the mix, well you may as well check everything.

RGMG that people are satisfied with Covid Emergency act still in effect in Canada. Specifically, I was chosen for a random PCR test at the YYC airport.

So it's not an Antigen. I got the email 1 hour after leaving the airport. So they will deliver a PCR self test which will take 3 days. That PCR test will be mailed and results will take 11 days. the government is now using my channels to text and email every 3 hours.

I'm disturbed that with the home test, i'll have to connect and have a video call while self administering the PCR. How is this legal? I'd rather pay to have the PCR done at an approved lab, then be ordered to have these people watch me on a camera in my home do this.

Even the in-flight cabin crew were exasperated with the masking policy, as when you travel internationally it has been abolished. It's extremely goofy to be in airports, city streets and venues, completely exposed and then as a Canadian get on an airplane to mask up with hundreds of people who have been around 10,000's of people.

There is simply no more logic left in this scenario. It's embarrassing.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer or denier, i've been vaxxed twice... Probably had Covid twice after vax (hey, when i'm sick I stay home and away from people) but this current scenario is a wild over reach.

I’m a big fan of masking in busy and cramped indoor spaces because people are disgusting, COVID or no COVID.

But I have no earthly idea what a test accomplishes.

I’m willing to bet the government gave out a huge contract to a company owned by a government official or a company who gov officials are heavily invested or a company who bribed the party, er I mean donated to the party, and so they have to keep the testing going so that company can continue to get paid out on that sweet sweet government contract. And they’ll keep going until every last test, for which the company probably charged the taxpayer a 20x markup on, has been used up.

They will stop bothering you after three or four days. I was randomly selected this summer along with my kid. I ordered the tests online but I never bothered doing them. They called every few hours for either three or four days and finally gave up. Maybe there is a black mark on my profile for future travel but who knows?

Random road gear grinder is speed limit changes that make no sense. I just noticed that at bottom of Nose Hill Drive at the intersection with 87th Street the speed limit drops from 60 to 50 for 100m. It drops right before the light and goes back to 60 right after the light. It is also for south/west bound and not the other side of the road going east/north. I don't know how long it has been this way but today is the first time that I actually noticed the 50 zone. It is so stupid.

Testing is good for variant tracking. Of all the things left that is something that likely makes sense.

So basically you want enough planes queued up so you don't end up under-utlizing runway capacity, but not so many that it gets messy and planes are just idling and wasting fuel.
Actually I used to work for an airline doing analytical stuff, so I had some familiarity with it. Mostly because yeah it’s up to the airport and it’s obviously not a simple queue. There is some thought, however ad hoc, to attempt optimization.

The masking policy is hilarious. I flew last month from Calgary, and dutifully put a mask in when I walked in. No one else was wearing one, so I took it off. I went to go through security and they had me put a mask on. I asked the guy about the rest of the airport and he said you only have to wear a mask at the security checkpoint. It’s pointless. As soon as you get through security, no mask until you board the plane. It’s just farcical.

How do you feel about the mandatory quarantine from approximately day 8 after a positive PCR test to day 14?

That seems especially stupid given PCR testing isn't available to the vast majority, so an infection from a couple of months ago generates a mandatory quarantine.

Yeah the rest of the act is ridiculous at this point. Any and all restrictions right now don’t make any sense outside of care homes and hospitals.

Surveillance and genomic testing at entry points and through things like the blood supply probably will provide good signals to the healthcare system

Another person dead after being hit by a truck going too fast. Speed fines should be relative to vehicle size.

Greta should forget about Big Oil and focus some rage on these blasted contraptions:

This POS is made with precisely zero water resistance - making them last about a month of usage in the hands of children. They are priced low enough (via your local Costco) that they basically become single use. As a 'buy it for life' kind of guy - it drives me nuts to think how many of these end up in landfills....

Refillable bubble wands for the kids from now on....

The truck veered off the road and struck the pedestrian at a bus stop. Speed may be a factor but this was more likely due to distracted driving which is the biggest issue on the roads right now.

Ok. There’s no evidence of what caused the crash but that’s possible. So, distracted driving fines should scale to vehicle size too.
