Didn't Nickerjones start camping there on the Thursday a few years ago?
I got in around 8:15, I was only looking for the team apparel and was a little underwhelmed. Maybe it was just bad timing and they hadn't replenished the tables?
The equipment side of the sale was incredible, I don't think I've ever seen so much available.

I'm confused. Some posters badmouthed people who did some shady stuff, like using a wagon to grab tons of gear and move them off to the side to sort out and discard gear they didn't want. Basically monopolizing huge swaths of gear and engaging in some kinda scummy practices.
There were also complaints of people just filling hockey bags of stuff, again hoarding gear, and many people thought it was purely for re-sale on ebay or kijiji.
Then you posted a defence of your actions and said people are too quick to judge and now you've clarified and said you don't flip your stuff online.
So I'm curious why you were so defensive if the complaints were about totally different people than you. Were you one of the people they were complaining about? Were you hoarding gear and not giving other people a chance to even look at it by moving it off to the side so you could essentially have a private shopping experience at the expense of other fans? Do you sell your gear online for a profit?
If not, I'm not sure why you'd care if people don't like those types of fans.

I think this is my point. The event started at 8am and was open to STH before the public, yet the first 10-15 people through the door pick all the good stuff and leave the leftovers for the other 1000+ STH's and general public to pick over after.
I get it, we can all line-up 10+ hours before the sale if we want to be first in line, but again, that's not my point. It's the greed and entitlement of these individuals that I'm getting at. Are your hard earned dollars worth more than mine or the next guys? We all spend a good chunk of money on this team as season ticket holders, with very little additional benefit for doing so, yet those 10-15 people ruin it for the rest of us. Our entire world is consumed by greed, it'd just be nice to see some common decency at events like this for once.

Listen I have done some crazy things before. I don't remember a 2 day camp but Im also getting old and might have forgot. Anyway I only ever camped out with Brett.
The issue with me going now is a 5 year old. And also no one even uses Eagle gloves anymore so what's the point for me =). PS if any one has Aleks Kotalik's HC Eagles from eons ago.... I want them.

But on the flip side... is your time worth more than his? If it's important to you then you'd go early too. The comment you made here also sounds a bit like entitlement too.
There's plenty of different types that go to these sales. I've seen flippers (one dude posted $300 Gaudreau gloves on Kijiji for $1500 10 mins after the doors opener. There's collectors like Brett. And Some people go early to buy things to use when they play. Maybe not so much anymore but they used to sell brand new sticks for $75. So stocking up at the sale was a way to make the game more affordable for people.
Brett has a huge collection. Him and his family love collecting. They dont purchase it for re-sell at huge markups. They just like collecting it. They literally collect it so much I remember a story when ( I think it) was Cammy came back to the Flames he reached out to Brett's dad to use some of his old gloves/sticks. I think it's unfair to paint every one who stocks up on things in the same light.
Speaking of common decency and kindness I would like to point out that Brett has helped me out many times with stuff I wanted or when I couldn't camp out. He has always charged me what he paid for it.

I don't care what people do. If it's worth them camping out then good on them. My post was only there to highlight how underwhelmed I was.

Time is a different thing, you want a chance at a better piece then I guess you should consider lining up. My son lined up 3 hours early and was 12th in line. So should the people who invest their time grab crappy gear to leave the people who come whenever the good gear??

My observations from going to these sales since 2006:
- They’ve definitely evolved over the years; back then they sold used and newish gear for pretty low prices but there wasn’t a lot of it so you did have to go early if you wanted something in particular. Nowadays there is a LOT of equipment available (especially gloves and pants this year) but the prices aren’t ultra low so you are paying a bit for the novelty of having “pro” level stuff (someone mentioned practice jerseys for $100). That said, things like skates and sticks can cost $$$ at retail so there are probably some bargains still to be had. Also, some items were marked down from previous years, you just had to dig around and find them (there were at least one pair of Backlund CCM gloves for $25, same as last year).
- The best deals IMO are the locker room clothing for $10 — I managed to snag a players hoodie (they ones the players wore last year for press conferences ets) for $10 even though they retailed for over $100.
- New this year is that they gave season ticket holders early access; you can debate that if you want but there was still a LOT of equipment available by 9:30 when the doors were first opened to the general public. It sounds like that stuff may have gotten picked over pretty fast (especially the gloves), and yes, by then most of the $10 clothing had been snapped up.
- Depending on what your expectations are, hopefully it’s a good experience for everyone who attends and they are able to find something worthwhile. At the very least, the Fan Attic is 35% off, which is more than what season ticket holders normally get during the year.

What's the solution to people grabbing everything into a wagon blindly and then sorting it later? Or not leaving anything for others with families who can't go that early? I understand the frustrations with people who hoard and possibly flip things later on.
Maybe make an item or weight limit for each individual?

Like another user suggested, I think a limit of 10 items is fair.

Totally agree 10 items would be fair. You will still have those who grab a bunch of stuff and decide later but at least they only are walking out with 10 items

Wasn't at all trying to put down Brett or point anyone out specifically. I completely understand that everyone has their reasons for buying what they can, when they can.
I just think there should be a personal limit at these events. Say a limit of 10. That's more than enough things for one individual person, especially when it's to benefit other season ticket holders.

I think the issue that a lot of people have is the volume of quality, low priced apparel that is selling for $10-25 that people want.
We all want top notch Flames stuff for $10 that normally retails for $100 but if the first 10 people have cleared out a good chunk of merchandise in the public's size that leaves people a little miffed. The amount of people who truly fit into an XL sized tracksuit and pants is rare. Small, Medium and Large is what we want.
If people are lining up for hours in the morning or all night to get a really rare pair of skates or equipment than that's one thing. Buying all the $10 stuff and than reselling online for $75-100 is a different topic.

No you didn’t.
You could have just said that. You posted it to brag about it, and humble brag yourself as a martry who was able to skip the line without even initially stating as much.
Not even a glutton needs or uses that much gear.
If you’re not reselling it, you’re holding on to it for its value going forward.
No one is fooled.
I used the gloves I bought 3 times in the last 2 days, and didn’t feel the need to post a picture of any of it or describe any in detail.

Another option is that the Flames could run these as an online auction for charity. Then everybody has equal chance at any item to the maximum they want to pay, and the proceeds still end up going to charity.

On a side note, I purchased a used Backlund stick and thought I looked it over pretty thoroughly but I see there's a small cut in the lower part of the back of the shaft. I understand everything is likely final sale, has anyone had any luck getting them to swap a stick for another stick after the fact? I'd had planned to actual use the stick in my beer league tourney this weekend (Canmore Draft Experience - Thanks Nickerjones!!).
I'm not sure it would necessarily break with my mediocre beer league play but there were like 15 of his sticks, wonder if maybe they would consider a swap? I'll likely just call them tomorrow and ask...
