What makes you so sure nobody else is interested? It's pretty clear that he wants to stay in Calgary. For all we know, he's turned down multiple offers from other teams, or at least told them to wait until he knows if he's getting a contract here.

Pretty sure that's a typo and he's saying "I" am surprised there's no interest.

I know the Stone family. Michael loves it in Calgary. His wife is from Calgary, and her family is here. He's had offers to go somewhere else the past few years (including this one) but his heart is here. He's also pretty close with Tre.

Hard not to like a guy who comes in at the bottom of the roster but shines in the playoffs.

Sounds like a guy who will end up in the Flames front office at some point if he wishes.
Good for him.

You are probably right. For a long term happiness play, he is setting things up quite well, one would think.

Only 6 Flames outscored Stone in the playoffs. And he was a plus 6.

This just further hammers home the fact that a trade seems likely to me.
Stone is going to get a contract.
Weegar
Hanifin
Andersson
Tanev
Zadarov
Kylington
Valimaki
Stone
Meloche
Mackey
...something is going to give.

Michael Stone summed up in a perfect gif.
I loved his game in the playoffs. Sign him up!

He has looked solid so far. His loyalty to the flames is something else. I would love for him to get a contract as a #7. If Kylington is out for any length of time, he can do a decent job on the bottom pairing

Why isn’t this done already? Honestly for what Stone brings to the team vs what he will cost, it’s a no brainer. He’s a steady 6/7 guy, has an absolute cannon of a shot, and is 100% a team-first guy. Make it happen, Tre.

They might want to keep the roster flexibility for as long as they can, but if Ritchie could get a contract, Stone should most definitely get one soon.

What’s the rush? He isn’t going anywhere.

I guess if you have a team first guy who is super loyal and worth a contract I'm not sure I'd try to exploit that until the last second possible.

Taking a while to get to 5000

He likely already has an agreement in place. Thus, no rush.

Exploit what? I'm sure he has a very close relationship with management and is being kept in the loop as to what is going on.

You’re probably right about the contract. I wouldn’t see a trade from that though.
6 NHLers + Stone.
3 waiver wire players (and 1 will start in the NHL while Kylington is away)
The top 6 aren’t going anywhere. No way Sutter starts the year with 2 rookie D
The bottom 3 wouldn’t have any value
Plus for the AHL level there are only 8-9 names. 1 starts in the NHL. They’ll want to keep some vets with the 1st/ 2nd year pros on the wranglers.

Kylington is the x factor here. When will he be available and what state his game is in.
Valimaki is the guy at risk as his salary is bigger than the rest and I don't see the club wanting him sitting in the press box taking up cap space and not playing. If you trade him, it would maybe be something like the Granlund for Shinkaruk deal.

From a career perspective this was a crucial camp to be in attendance for for oliver. Especially given his jitters after hitting the boards . He needed to get back up to speed. That will be much harder if he misses all of camp
