I think we have to keep in mind that Tanev just had his shoulder rebuilt. And he has a lot of hard miles on him. No one is a bigger fan of what he brings than me, and the first 2 years of his deal have been more than a bargain, but we need to be cognizant that father time is coming, and may arrive as early as this year (due to his shoulder).
Lots of people looking to trade Hanifin due to our D depth, but we can't just assume that we still have 2021-22 Tanev.

Yup ... Tanev is probably the top-four Flames defenceman I would consider the most expendable at this point, for exactly the reasons you just stated.

From the safest prediction in the history of safe predictions, Seravelli says Stone will probably return to Calgary:

I hope the Flames give Michael Raffl a PTO. I thought he was great defensively last year. He has a bad +/- but that's more because of his usage and some bad puck luck. I think he can be a great option on the 3rd/4th line.
EDIT: nvm I saw he signed in Switzerland

I would like a Puljujarvi for Valimaki trade but I am not holding my breath but I do feel like it helps both teams

Straight up, sure. But at $3M, Puljujarvi is a cap-anchor. And you're doing the Oilers a favour.

I would say he was worth 4-4.5 with his play last year.

What? If he were (he wasn't), they wouldn't have been trying to unload him and his (bargain) $3M contract all summer.

Yea, it's not like teams ever undervalue players that are actually quite good

Sure, but that doesn't explain the league-wide silence when the Oilers threw the 'available' sign on Puljujarvi's ass

I think that's largely inexplicable. Puljujarvi is an excellent player. Reminds me a lot of Nichushkin and Coleman.

Nichushkin and Coleman both strike me as very intelligent players. JP not so much.

And yet they all manage similar results ... I think he's a pretty smart two-way player.

84% of Puljujarvi's even strength minutes last season were spent with one (or both) of McDavid and Draisaitl.
The year prior 78.5% of his even strength minutes were spent with one (or both) of McDavid and Draisaitl.
The fact that he has been as unproductive as he has while playing with two of the games most elite offensive forwards speaks volumes.

I feel like Puljujarvi just needs a change of scenery and could be one of those players that figured it out later like Nikushkin who was bouncing around the league until he found his role with the Avs. Play him with Backlund and Dube on the third line and just play a simplified role it could be worth the roll of the dice.
I also feel Valimaki could benefit from a change of scenery but the way Pat has been talking up his summer training and dedication I get a feeling he makes the team if Tanev is going to miss significant time

He hasn't been unproductive at all. He was on pace for 45 points last year ... perfectly fine for a complementary winger — along with strong defensive results while playing with some very poor defensive players.

Nichushkin is a pretty valid comparison IMO - especially prior to his offensive breakout the last season or so.
