Apparently it was Eakin's idea for his Sabres teammates to all dress up as Flint Tropics arriving at the Winter Classic.

How does this change that? I imagine they will still get their shot.

Projected WAR is 3% if he is paid no money.

Cheering for the guy, but I fear for the team if he makes it.

I totally called this in another thread. I've always liked Eakin, he plays the game hard and is a good defensive forward with jam. His offense has dried up, but he hasn't been given that task in a long time. I would like to see him with Backlund in the pre-season, but if all else fails, he would make a good 4th line C- I would prefer him to Rooney. Sutter will like him.

No, no, no. If we didn’t have Rooney or Lewis I’d be for it. Just no room, and it’s time the youngsters get a spot. Fully aware it’s a PTO, but point stands.

It's just a PTO. Good to have some competition. And I think he'd perform better under Sutter than most people would expect.
Yeah, he looks like replacement level garbage at this point. I generally don't care about PTO's and this is no exception. He's the kind of player that if he makes the team I'd question what prospects did wrong to get beat out by him.

But the competition is probably good for camp.

Lol, Rooney is not an all star by any means. But Eakins over Rooney is laughable.

You guys are looking at Eakins on the Sabres. Eakins on the Flames is entirely different.

Bringing in another player to push the kids and add competition for spots. Who wouldn't want the best player to take the bottom spots whether they are home grown prospects or PTO guys? I also don't get why everyone expects the 4th liners to be offensive minded guys. Defensively responsible face punchers are always nice if games get out of hand.

Good PTO signing by Brad Treliving. Wouldn’t even mind him getting a contract, depending on how he does in training camp (as compared to the youngsters). Hopefully means we aren’t going back to Brett Ritchie

Why is it time youngsters got a shot? Explain that? You don't learn NHL hockey "on the job" at least not while Sutters the coach. "Youngsters" get a shot when they earn it plain and simple. They don't just get it handed to them because some fans think its time.

Play to win.

I'm perfectly fine with this. Yes he hasn't been very good for a couple years, but he won't get a contract unless Sutter sees something he can work with here.

He's there so the split games have enough players.

Hope it’s just a PTO

This guy makes Brett Ritchie look like a play maker

C'mon man, that's pure hyperbole. Ritchie had 4 points last year, Eakin is still good at face-offs and is a good defensive forward.

The game of Hockey is more than offense and points.

Have you watched Rooney? No way I prefer Eakin to Rooney. I can't see this guy making the team. Maybe if he was a scoring winger.

Yes I have. Have you watched Rooney? How about Eakin? Look, you're probably right-Eakin may not make the team. But Sutter might love him....
